I have no idea if it is true or not, but, there is someone posting on the Cubs.com message board claiming to be Len Kasper. He has been asked some questions to verify that he is, in fact, the one and only Len and has yet to slip up. It could be a great opportunity to get him over here (if it really is him). Just thought I would pass it along in case anyone wanted to give it a look see. Edited by andrew9991

I kinda doubt it, but if it IS him, I'm puzzled as to why he's at that troll-ridden board instead of NSBB which he has mentioned on the air.

But, direct him over here. I'm sure the intelligent ones will weed him out.

It looks like it actually was Len Kasper on the message board. Check out his blog today on the WGN website:

I don't know who would go about doing it, but I think it would be great if we could get Len over here.

That's funny, but not terribly surprising. I mean, one would think that the Cubs brass would frown upon their play by play guy fraternizing with the fans on a message board, even if it is on the official Cubs site. Nor is it surprising that the Mods would think it was an imposter. I mean, there are many celebrities who, for example, play games like World of Warcraft and Everquest, but would you ever believe them if they told you who they were?

Kasper did an interview with Desipio a while back (he and Dolan are friends, I guess). It doesn't surprise me that he was on the board -- but I think it's a credit to him that he likes to stay in touch with the fans and be accessible.

Certainly a marked contrast to our last PBP man.

Well, many were suspicious and asked a few questions to try to "verify" that it was really was me. I think I actually convinced most everyone blogging at the time when all the sudden the moderator killed the discussion. My guess is they thought I was an imposter. One of the rules on that site is that it's strictly prohibited to impersonate a Cubs player or offiicial. So, in essence, I was caught for impersonating myself.

Hilarious :D

I think if someone told him about our more distinguished members that are in the business (Bruce Miles, etc), then maybe Len would consider posting here, or at least doing an interview for the site. I think it'd be great to have him on the boards, even if it was just for a chat session or something.

If only Steve Stone weren't so inept with computers.....

I posted a comment (which hasn't been approved yet) inviting hm to come over here. I hope he does. I didn't mention Bruce Miles or the DJaxx announcer, though. Maybe someone else can.

I'd just inform him that people over here would probably take him more seriously. And he wouldn't have to sort through all the troll posts since our moderators are quite good at keeping this board clean and respectable.

Looks like a whole lotta NSBB'ers invited Len to come over here :)

Did he say something about the board? I'm stuck at work.....

Look at the comments section below his recent blog entry. That's what people are referring to.

Also, Len mentioned the site in a previous game in response to an e-mail, and obviously checked it out to report that there were articles on the site and such. If you search "Len + shout out" there might be a video clip of the reference somewhere around here.

I added to those posting about NSBB there (my post is currently being "held for approval").

I think it's absolutely hilarious that the Cubs' own official web site deleted his thread because a moderator thought it was an imposter. That moderator must really feel like he has egg on his face over that one. :D

I ran across a sports writer many years ago on a messageboard. He sent me a PM to answer my question and had a couple of his own. Funny thing, I was a regular reader of his. He wanted to remain anonymous so all I can tell you is he lives on this planet. Ok, so I gave away the gender.

Back in the old days a writer could go to the local watering hole and listen to what people were talking about. The celebrity culture makes writers a target for attention. (?) This forced them to turn to the net to listen in on (read) what people are talking about so they don't have to spend time answering an infinite number of questions or coming off like a donkey.

In Bruce's case, he identifies himself. That's rare, that's brave and I suppose he only logs on to read when he's interested in questions or at least I assume he's got that part down.

I was/am a huge fan of Mike Royko. If you've read Royko and understand the celebrity culture, you'll know why writers and personalities you admire are online. Give them space when they want it.

Clearly, the mod over at Cubs.com could have used this.
