I'm expecting Maddux to become a pitching coach after he retires (hopefully for the Cubs :o ) That man is a genius!

As for Sandberg, maybe fielding coach would be his strength? Or even hitting coach. Hell, I wouldnt mind having him as the manager..

Dont get me wrong, Ryno is the MAN!

But I dont see him being a manager, a coach at best, he is too shy, doesnt have the go get em style that is needed to be a manager...

Like Maddux or even Mark Grace has...

I see Grace a manager before Sandberg.

Maddux for any coaching job with the cubs. Pitching coach would be amazing. I think he could probably pull off Manager too.

i would love to have maddux as a pitching coach, but why would he do it? hes's made his millions, why would he drag his family to chicago for good and sign himself up to work everyday. at the very least, he's going to want a few years free from commitments. i know i would.

Ryne Sandberg shy? Maybe in the past. But his Hall of Fame induction speech changed perceptions of the man. You could say he may have been lobbying for a coaching job with the 30 major league teams the way he talked.

it would be great to see #23 in the dugout for the Cubs, but we all know managers are hired to be fired.

How would this kind of stuff look:

Ryno sucks!

Ryno Busters

Ryno blows

FIRE Ryno

Ryno is a moron

Ryno is stupid

I hate Ryno

I hope the only coaching he does is for his son.

Now, Grace on the other hand, would at the very least be an entertaining manager.. . . . just think, he could employ a "slump buster sunday" during a losing streak.

Not until Sandberg makes the commitment to coach everyday on a team. I am also not into having a player who was once a very good one for my favorite team be it's manager. It reminds me of signing a player because he is from the area....look how well that's worked out for the Cubs.

All I'm saying is that judging from the Sandberg's yahoo.com articles, I don't want him managing this team.

I'm going to have tp agree with you. Sandberg is my all-time favorite Cub, and I absolutely loved his HOF speech, but I don't want him as manger. He can be a hitting instructor or a first base coach, maybe even the bench coach, but I would look at a number of others before I'd entrust the team to Ryno.

Gracie would be interesting.

Or Joe Girardi. Give him a job in the system somewhere and see how he does, then if he does well promote him.

Considering Girardi is already bench coaching in the Majors, for the Yankees, I doubt he would accept a position in the system somewhere outside of the Major Leagues; That sounds to me like a regression on the career path ladder.

Steve Stone for manager, but we need him in the booth more than the dugout.

Yea, I dont get him on that. We finally found a great 3Basemen and now he wants to get rid of him? Thats not like stony..

BTW, Stone wouldn't do so bad as pitching coach.
