Corey's stint of .297 hitting in Iowa, taking walks, and batting .500 over his last 8 or 10 games or whatever, just goes to prove that the problem Corey faces in the major leagues is strictly mental. (news flash, I know) Now that there's pretty strong numeric proof of this, I say that if he doesn't straighten himself out, we either see what we can get for him by next year's deadline or just outright release him. Now that he has had this time in Iowa and was so successful there, the pressure is on even more.

Heaven help us if he strikes out in his first at-bat.

I have a feeling that Corey is going to help spark this team. Don't know why but I just have a really good feeling about today.

I hope this is just the start of a kid movement on this team. If ARam is hurt I'd love to see Fountant (sp) get some time at third and second after Sept 1. If Baker continues to play Macias at third instead...well you know the rest.

Go CPatt and good luck!!!!!!

He'd probably be beheaded.

I know what you mean, (and don't take this personally as it isn't meant to be directed at you) but I've grown incredibly tired of handling these players, this team, and the organization as a whole with kid gloves. To hell with the faith we give them that they will turn things around. To hell with management chastizing the paying public who come to see an inferior product. And, to hell with overly sensitive organizational members who let every minute thing off the field infect their play within the lines.

These are professionals for Christ's sake! They should worry moreso about carrying themselves as such and not sucking rather than the reaction of the crowd.

I haven't been particularly vocal in these arguments regarding booing vs. not booing, but I'm just sick of the debate. It overshadows the fact that these players aren't playing to their potential. Focusing on the reactions of the fans is turning into red herring. So freaking what if they boo? Get the job done first, then worry about those fickle fans that will boo with a first AB K, but cheer when you hit a 3 run homer.

Stop giving Dusty a free pass on Murton in press conferences. Why not insist that he explain whatever emorphous plan he has. Ask about Cedeno not getting consecutive starts. Ask Hendry why the team has interest in a one foot in his professional grave Marquis Grissom.

This organization has abused its fan with inept play, poor strategy, and decisions barren of foresight. I could care less what fans do, I'm more interested in results on the field.

I couldn't agree more. And you managed to do it without calling anyone stupid, gutless, heartless or a bum.

Cudos to you JC!

I'd rather have DFA'ed Neifi as he's back to his old crappy self, but that's not happening as long as Dusty is managing.

Neifi isn't signed past this year, correct?

You'd rather have Neifi gone so Cedeno could continue to start once, or at most twice per week behind Nomar?

Now that Nomar is back, I would much rather have Ronny starting everyday at Iowa and let Neifi have his 1 start or so per week.

that doesn't even makes sense. the fact that he had a hot couple of weeks means that it was mental? that's your proof? he's had hot streaks like that during his big league career. and he absolutely sucked for a pretty good period while he was down there too...what is that proof of?

Now that there's pretty strong numeric proof of this, I say that if he doesn't straighten himself out, we either see what we can get for him by next year's deadline or just outright release him. Now that he has had this time in Iowa and was so successful there, the pressure is on even more.

again, there is NOT 'strong numeric proof' of anything. a couple weeks worth of numbers is NEVER strong numeric proof of anything. this is just more of people thinking they know the players and that every case of struggles is due to a bad attitude.

This is a good thing for Cedeno. Dusty's a bum.

How does Ronny get to be the starting SS next year? I think he's sunk if one or both of the following happen:

(1) Hendry re-signs Nomar. (I'm hoping that doesn't happen, actually. I'm thinking lately that Nomar is past his prime and thrives exclusively in the AL.); or

(2) Baker and/or Hendry get fired.

If I see Baker in the dugout and Neifi, Macias, or some other scrub in the middle IF next year (assuming decent players are healthy), I'm forming a militia to do some housecleaning.

I think Nomar is worth one last shot. Give him a one-year deal. If he gets injured or doesn't cut it, he's gone. Cedeno should be the backup for him and Walker.

And we NEED NEED NEED to sign a guy who can play 1st to give Lee a day off every now and then.

If they had kept Dave Hansen instead of Macias they would have had a guy to give Lee a day off now and then.

I'm sorry but outright releasing him would be a very stupid move. You can get value for him from somewhere if you wouldn't want to keep him. Some team is going to give up a minor leaguer or two to try to turn him around.

I don't mind sending Cedeno down. At least this way, he'll get 3 weeks of consistent at bats before the Sept 1st callups.

My problem is really with what happens after the roster expansion.

Who thinks Murton, Pie, and Cedeno play regularly (i.e. 3 starts+ per week) after september 1st?

I don't see it. I think that Nomar continues to get 90% of the starts because they want to see if he's worth a 1-year deal next year. And i think Hollandsworth, Burnitz, Perez, and Macias eat the rest of the starts because Baker will want them to be able to show they're valuable to another team next season.

september 1st of what year?

if you're talking about any year before 2008, i second jc's answer.
