This is great. We can see our prospects up earlier in the season and see how the future will be. They probably play better than the stupid team we have playing in the majors. It's back to the glory days of the Cubs before 2003. When we all went to Wrigley just to have a good time and not worry about the outcome of the game. If they win...great! If they lose....that's great too! at least i got my beer. Wrigley field is so much better during the lovable losers era. This board will be better once we know that the Cubs are destined to lose. Go Cubs!

Except now there's no Sammy to entertain people. And crankier fans.

Which should mean we wont be losing for long. NO reason to accept it now.

This year has taught us it wasn't Sammy putting people in the seats.

People come to Wrigley just because. Just because. And they always will until the place finally implodes.

Our prospects have been up since the beginning of the season. Dusty has just been sitting them because of Neifi and Holla.

Not for me. If this crap keeps up, rest assured that I'm going to boo the hell out of them next time I hit Wrigley.

nice mentality there

yes i know 2002, 99 and 2000 sucked and god can only forget that 97 season, but cmon...i would never be one of those fans to go there "just for the heck of it win or lose." I hate seeing us lose, but to have most of the "fan" base go back into that attitude would be the worst thing for the real fans, those who want to win.

I hope that makes sense because i'm as tired as heck right now

Yay! Hoooray booing.

I thought everyone decided not to make an official color for sarcastic comments?

I agree, please we're not WSI, we don't want to be anything resembling WSI. If you can't pick up on sarcasm oh well.

Yeah, that'd show'em. Nobody's ever booed in Wrigley before.

Why boo?

Do you think it will make the team better? A team that can't handle itself in the clutch won't play better with more pressure.

Do you think it'll make the ownership spend more on the team, like they refused to do in the 90's? The team has a pretty high payroll. They aren't a .500 team right now because they won't spend.

The only reason I can see to boo is to make yourself feel better about the team. You are within you rights to boo if you like, but if you want to make yourself feel better, I suggest you take a break from the whole team for a few days, or maybe a week. I know its harder than it sounds, but taking my mind off the Cubs for a few days after a few particularly disgusting loss is the only reason I haven't gone crazy.

I understand the dislike for the "Who cares if they win" attitude, but the organization is actually trying to win now, and booing will not make them change anything for the better.

I did it purely for entertainment value.

OK. I don't care that much either way, as long as I don't have to do it.

I'll feel better if I vent. Taking a break is NOT an option.

The reason why we boo is that we are not satisified with their performance on the field, regardless of what is going on. No, I doubt it doesn't make the team better, but at least it gives them the idea that the fan's are not happy with their performance, and they gotta shape up. I would have probably boo'ed the Cubs after their awful performance aganist the D-backs. That last game was just awful. It was just a slaughter. Even Custer had better numbers at the little bighorn than this.

The ownership is not even a problem. I'm not going to boo at the ownership, since I can deftinaly tell that they are trying to win. The problem I have is that we ARE a .500 team, yet we have at least somewhere 95 to 100 million payroll. That is unaceeptable. We have so much freaking talent on this team, that it's just practically going straight down in the crapper. Of course, there are the injuries, but still, great teams overcome injuries. We are not a great team. We're just "average". To the fans, that isn't acceptable. Plus, not winning a World Series, since 1908, let alone, make it to the World Series since 1945 plays a role here.

Do you really think they don't realize that the fans are displeased without booing?

With Dusty managing?

It's not about Dusty. Players aren't stupid, I'm pretty sure they realize when they are not playing well(especially when they are getting crushed like the Arizona game), and therefore the fans are not happy with them not playing well. They don't need boos to remind them of that.

The CUBS (known as the White Stockings back then) were off that day, after having beaten the New York Mutuals 16-2 in Chicago the day before. They enjoyed a couple days off at home waiting for the Philadelphia Athletics to come to town. At the time, the White Stockings were in first place in the National League, 2.5 games ahead of the Hartford Dark Blues. Ah... the good old days.

If that's an actual historical fact, wow. That certainly puts things in perspective.
