The Cubs now trail the MILWAUKEE BREWERS in the standings. In August. Think about that for a minute. If you owned the Cubs and had spent $100MM on payroll to find yourself behind six other teams for the wildcard, including the MILWAUKEE BREWERS, and find yourself 4th in your OWN DIVISION, wouldn't you demand heads to roll??

I sure would. I'd fire Baker and every member of the coaching staff tomorrow. The lackluster effort from this squad, the whining and excuse making, and now the kicker, falling below 500 and behind the Brewers. That would be the trigger for me to act if I owned the Cubs.

I agree. The Cubs have had injuries, sure, but there is NO excuse to be behind the Brewers and in fourth place at this point in the season. The Brewers very well may be a threat in a couple of seasons, but they're still rebuilding. The Cubs have too many resources and too much money invested in players to accept this. Somebody has to be held accountable.

Ugh, the Brewers.

Can only hope Dusty goes to LA. However, I can't see DePodesta hiring him. I really like Hendry, but he's pretty bullheaded. Hiring Baker was a huge mistake. Baker took over a very promising pitcher staff in 2003 and overextended it. He lets guys like Neifi, Patterson and Macias bat 1st and 2nd. Actually, a book could be written on how overrated Baker is. Perhaps if the fans ride him hard enough, he'll quit.

Oh ye's of little faith. The Cubs are still 5 out w/ 10 to play against the wildcard leader. Houston's hitting is nothing to write home about and an injury to Oswalt, Petitte, Clemens or Lidge could send them reeling. I see no reason to waive the French flag yet.

And one more thing..... :o

Houston's far from invincible. Their offense is not good. I don't think anyone's shaking over Tavares, Biggio, Berkman, Ensberg, Lane, Palmeiro, Ausmus and Everett. Also, they're counting on 2 starters w/ 6+ ERA (Astacio and Rodriguez). Houston's had some pretty good luck w/ neither Clemens, Petitte or Oswalt going on the DL. If Oswalt or Petitte go down (they've had past problems), Houston could go Washington and melt away fast. Jmo but the most complete team's Florida.
