Chan Ho Park was pitching in LA -- things went downhill after leaving that pitcher's paradise.

Anyway, here's another interesting comparison: Randy Johnson through age 29. (And this is with the benefit of his age 29 year, when he was 19-8 and actually a year older than Wood -- but I wanted the starts to be closer.):

GS IP BB SO W-L ERA

163 1073 618 1126 68-46 3.78 (Johnson)

174 1097 533 1269 70-53 3.68 (Wood)

Surprisingly similar, huh?

Yeah, way to base it on 3 stats, one of which is is W/L record. Nevermind that Kerry has a career 1.26 WHIP while Chan Ho has a 1.39 WHIP. Kerry has a career K/9 of 10.41 while Chan Ho is at 7.93. Kerry gives up 6.99 H/9 while Chan Ho is at 8.19. But hey, I guess if you use the right stats, any player can look like any other.

what stands out for me is that chan ho still has decent stats overall after sucking so bad in Tex....

but no they are totally different pitchers.

But things sound much worse when you compare him to Chan Ho.

That was precisely my point. One can compare stats of just about anyone. Of course, Wood is almost surely going to be somewhere between Park and Johnson quality-wise for the rest of his career. (Hopefully closer to Johnson!)

Strikeouts are a little overrated. Chan Ho got the job done regardless. An out is an out.

not true, when a flyball means a run an out is not an out.

Strikeouts are overrated for hitters. For pitchers they say a lot more.

What the heck is this? Showing Park's stats up until he went to Texas... What am I looking for?

Wood allowed 95 less runs than an avg. pitcher would have throughout his career, Park allowed 45 less runs during his timeframe in LA.

How so? What's the difference? You're going to say if a hitter strikes out with 2 out and no one on it doesn't matter. In that case...who cares if a pitcher strikes out a guy with 2 out and no one on or if that guy hits a flyball to left for the third out? Depending on the situation, sometimes I'd rather take the flyball if it means less pitches.

IMHO, strikeouts can be used in conjunction with walks and/or innings pitched, and various other statistics to tell a lot about a pitchers stuff and control.

With regard to hitters, they can be a lot more misleading.

I'm just basing this on general observation...nothing concrete. You don't have to agree with me.
