Did we just sacrafice a guy when we are 3 runs down?

I think Neifi was bunting for a hit, and he nearly got it.

Yeah it was a drag bunt trying to get on base and he was out by a half step. Not a bad play. At the worst it moves the runner to 3rd with only one out and at best he beats it out and we got guys at the corners with nobody out. If Hollandsworth executes we at least chip one run off that lead...

Couldn't tell from computer screen. But, why would a bunt "surprise" the other team for a hit in that situation? Just seems odd to me. Then again, maybe it would surprise them because it's a bad thing to do when your down 3 runs.

Can't blame Dusty for losing this one. Absolutely no excuse for this offensive performance. None at all. The continued gutless performance of the hitters in crucial situations is unacceptable. Another complete disgrace to this point.

WRONG. It'd be a 1 run game if Dusty had pulled Ohman. How many times has Dusty made this 2 inning mistake with Ohman this year so far, 10? GET A CLUE MORAN!!

As for our hitting, it's streaky. Having a lineup full of streak hitters like Perez and Hollandsworth is the reason.

[expletive] unnacceptable from a $90M team in LF. Especially with Murton hitting well in very limited AB.

Perez is our backup shortstop.

That is why I said LF and not SS. I wanted to make a secondary point that Cedeno should have been put in as the regular about a month ago. Perez with a god awful sub 600 ops the last two months!!

The 2nd guessing on this board is getting really old. There were no posts after the double-switch was made, only after Hollandsworth struck out. Nobody complained about Ohman being in for the 2nd inning until after the Gonzalez HR.

Yes, the Cubs are frustrating right now. It's very easy to see that this team is very, very tired right now. Playing in that heat in St. Louis took a lot out of them and it is showing. I look for them to have a lot more energy after the off day Monday. Hopefully, it's after no worse than a 2-2 weekend.

IMB! called out the double switch from the moment it happened.

What a bunch of crap!

Hollandsworth PH'ing for Murton!

Are you on drugs?

He was pinch hitting for Rusch.

Christ, you're hollandsworth hating is getting old, especially when it's so blatantly ridiculous and wrong. There are enough situations to get on Hollandsworth and Dusty about, you don't need to be incorrect to do it.

Jeez, no need to have a tizzy, I forgot about the double switch.

Ridiculous and wrong? Anyone with eyes can see that Hollandsworth has not helped much. Aparrently you have not watched the Cubs much this year.

So your telling me that lefties are kicking the crap out of Remmy? Huh, never made the connection. But aren't ALL LHP good at getting out lefties? They have no other value IIRC.

It didn't really surprise them, it was a really good drag bunt.

Mike Remlinger, lefty specialist.

Granted, it's not as if he's just faced lefties this inning, so be fair about it. Someone has to pitch the 8th, might as well be Remlinger.

The reason it was wrong is because of the double switch. It just seems like every post you make in the gamethread is ripping Holly. I know he sucks and shouldn't be playing, but it does get old after awhile.

All these LOB today reminds me that Miguel Tejada left 11 men on base last night. That's right, 11 LOB.

The Cubs have only left 7 men on base in 7 innings. The D-backs have left 13 on in 8. And they've even scored 3 runs.

The Cubs are fortunate to be down by 3 right now. Their problem is not getting enough guys on base in general, not as much pushing them across.

Ari 27 LOB, ChC 12 LOB

Not quite accurate, because that counts a runner on base with 0 outs that gets left at the end of an inning 3 times. Meaning, if, say Gerut doubled, and then 3 guys after him make outs after him without him scoring, then he counts as 1 LOB for each guy.
