What kind of package would it take to get these guys-? Plugging those 2 into our lineup makes things very interesting-maybe we won't pay as much because of Alou's contract? Do you think it is feasible?

CF-Hairston

2B-Walker

1B-lee

RF-Burnitz

3B-Rammy

LF-Alou

C-barrett

SS-Perez

Prior-Schmidt-Zambrano-Maddux-Williams for the stretch-rest Woody for 6-7 weeks and bring him into close-ouch

I'd take Schmidt and Alou in a heartbeat!!!

Unfotunately, neither would really be a long term fix, and I dont think we're looking for rentals this year. Plus, I see absolutely no way that Hendry tries to get Alou back on this staff.

+ another pitching prospect.

would be my guess...

San Fran is asking the moon for Schmidt.

no way in hell would i do that trade

No offense CardFan, but that is one of the most preposterous things I've ever heard. Asking the moon is one thing, but to suggest even half-seriously that it would take that package is way offline.

Isn't Schmidt a Free Agent after this season? That and him having a "down" year might drop his trade value.

I'm not quite sure we'd have to give up the world to get Schmidt and Alou, if we take on all the money owed including Moises next year.

And the Cards would have to give up Pujols and Edmonds.

Schmidt's a free agent, who SF may not retain. They aren't going to get the moon.

Anyone know where Schmidt is likely to fall as far as free agent class? Like how we got screwed over by Clement being under classified and we had to take a lower comp pick.

I think giving the Giants better than they'd get in the draft and a good prospect or so would seal the deal. Moises would certainly have use on the team next year as well.

I didn't say it was fair. I just said that's what it would take.

Schmidt for Hill, Mitre and Pie. It was reported that the giants were asking for 2 major league ready pitchers and a top position prospect for Schmidt. I think I'm giving Hill and Mitre some credit here.

Alou would probably take Dop and Wuertz at this point.

I believe there is an option for Schmidt for next season.

I need to check though.

I think the Giants would ask for Marquis, Reyes (or Wainwright) and Luna or another prospect along those lines.

Personally, I don't think the Cubs are good enough to risk trading two or three of the top prospects to try and win it all. This isn't based on fear of losing prospects, but rather the perception of them being able to win it all even with Schmidt and Alou.

Also, I can't see the Cubs being interested in Alou, it wasn't money, Hollandsworth, and/or Dubois that swayed the Cubs from not bringing back Alou despite his desires to return.

I agree. Not that the Cubs aren't good, but that this trade would not be in thier best interest.

Plus, trading for Schmidt would be a mistake in general. Overall, he has been injured and declining. Any team trading for him would be hoping for him to return to his production of a season other than '05, poor thought process unless you can get him for cheap in both players or salary, I doubt Schmidt can be had for his current production deserves.

Completely agree. Unless we're getting someone like Dunn who's going to be here a while, I'd really rather we not give up any young players of use.

It Sox that apparently Hendry has no desire for Dunn - and time is fading fast on pulling a Kearns deal.

I'm afraid the Cubs won't be making any deals before the deadline this year....

Burnett would be nice, but you'd be adding another injury prone pitcher. Schmidt would be a nice addition too, but he just doesn't have the same stuff he used to. Both would be nice additions to pick up cheaply, but that just isn't going to happen.

And wait til 2006? 2007? 2008?

There aren't any powerhouse clubs out there. I don't care if the Sox and Cards are well over .500. It's not like either's phenomenal, and the Cubs are better suited for the playoffs where their lack of depth isn't as exposed.

I dont think its that he has no desire for Dunn, I think it is more that the reds are just asking a ton for Dunn and Kearns.

The Reds are definitely skewed in their visions of what they want in return - but I don't think Dunn was ever in Hendry's radar. Kearns was always the man he wanted, or talked about.

I certainly think Alou & Schmidt puts us over the hump and into the wildcard. I mean, I know a lot of people don't like him because he didn't live up to his contract a couple years, isn't a defensive genius in LF and is an idiot on the bases, but come on, he's put up monster numbers. Any guy we can deal for with a .400 + OBP is ideal. Hell, if you can get Dusty to get over his "Dude, speed at the top of the lineup", bat him leadoff :D

A lineup of Hairston, Nomah, Lee, Burnitz, ARam, Alou, Walker and Barrett could be pretty potent. No more Todd Hollandworth striking out swinging w/ 2 on. :x The Cubs need to upgrade the 6th spot and the #3 pitcher asap.

Patterson, Dopriak, Mitre, Murton & Rusch for Alou and Schmidty.

Schmidt's been an inning eater up to this year, and seems like the type of guy who's forgotten more about pitching than Wood ever learned. I wouldn't want him as my leadoff or second pitcher in a playoff series, but he'd be a tough #3.

I'm still convinced Hendry's playing coy with that situation.

He's never been one to make his intentions public, ya know?
