Last night I witnessed the Iowa Cubs who were brutalized by the Oklahoma Redhawks. Corey went 0-4 with a strike out 2 grounds outs and a pop up..His swing has not changed one bit. Scott Williamson was nasty last night. He struck out 2 and the next batter grounded out to second.

Well, one outta two isnt bad.

Corey's swing will not changed overnight (couple of weeks). Im not defending him cause I really am sick of his approach, but I think its unrealistic too expect a change so soon. Has his approach to hitting changed at all. Im actually more concerned with that than his swing?

Well, at this point if Corey helps us at all this year, it's a bonus. I just think of him like I would a guy on an extended DL stint right now...forget about him this year.

Williamson is great to hear, we need him to be able to set the table for Ryan. Wiliamson->Dempster could be a nasty tandum.

I'm pretty sure this belongs in the minor leauge forum.

Why? They're both major league players and at least one of them will be back with the major league team this year, perhaps Williamson as soon as next week.

Not everyone reads the minor league forum, but most check out baseball discussions and this is more related to the major league team and the impact those players can have here.

There has been discussion in this forum of ML players doing rehab stints before.

Although they are Major League players, this thread started as a report from a Minor League game, which is why I moved it here.

BTJ, I'm sorry that you had to witness a bad loss, but I really appreciate the fact that you took time to report the game to those of us who couldn't be there live! Thanks again!

But don't you also think that the discussion that follows will pertain more to the major league team than the Iowa Cubs?

This discussion was started as a report from an Iowa Cubs game, which is why it's in the Minor League forum. In addition, the majority of the posts discussed Corey's development in Iowa and not the effect on the Major league team.

No problem at all moving the thread..

However I forgot to mention.. Corey looks totally stiff in the batters box. He does not look comfortable at all..I might go try to catch the series finally tomorrow and give another report.

Corey's average is now down to .200 in AAA. It's only been a few games, but let's hope he can get it turned around.

Based on what Hendry and Baker are saying in print, I don't think average is as important as approach at this point. If they sent him down to work on some things and tinker with his swing his average is going to look pretty bad for awhile but if he's doing what they want him to do that's ok.

His walk rate has been pretty good thus far, and his IsoP has been very good as well, both encouraging signs. Hopefully he can start getting more hits soon.

I think Corey's problems have less to do with his swing and more to do with his pitch recognition. I'm not sure if the Cubs realize this though.

It's BOTH his swing and his approach. I've always said that he had 1 one of the longest and 1 the loopiest (yeah it's a word) swings I've ever seen. counter that with a hitter who tries to pull everything and it's diasaster, I mean Corey Patterson. He has to make quite a few adjustments, including his approach at the plate.

It is unrealistic to think that he can fix his swing in such a short time and I think the CUbs know this. When they made that decision to send him down, they did so realizing that he won't be back this year, or atleast til Sept.
