Furious rally by Peoria falls just short...

* Anthony Granato homers (4) on a fly ball to right field.

* Alan Rick triples (2) on a line drive to center fielder Yuber Rodriguez.

* Joseph Simokaitis singles on a line drive to right fielder Eric Nielsen. Alan Rick scores.

* Drew Larsen walks. Joseph Simokaitis to 2nd.

* Pitcher Change: Daryl Harang replaces Joey McLaughlin.

* Sam Fuld grounds into double play, third baseman Christian Snavely to second baseman Eugenio Velez to first baseman David Hicks. Joseph Simokaitis to 3rd. Drew Larsen out at 2nd.

* Eric Patterson walks.

* Ryan Harvey homers (18) on a fly ball to right field. Joseph Simokaitis scores. Eric Patterson scores.

* Jesse Schmidt singles on a line drive to center fielder Yuber Rodriguez.

* Bo Flowers grounds out to first baseman David Hicks.

5-5 in the on-base department for the great Eric Patterson. 4 RBI for Harvey, although with the guy ahead of him getting on base 5 times he should knock in a lot of runs.

His ERA is skyrocketing!! 0.90 is just completely unacceptable.

It's a shame how one bad inning can ruin your ERA for the entire year.

3rd inning:

Harvey's leading the Midwest League in HRs and is creeping up on first place in RBIs.

I'd like to see his K/BB and average improve, but the power's definitely there.

MATHES SHUTS DOWN BLUE JAYS IN 6-0 WIN

The Daytona Southpaw Held Dunedin To Just Six Hit In Seven Frames To Cruise To His Eighth Win

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—In a starting rotation that has been ever changing in 2005, J.R. Mathes has become Mr. Dependable for the Daytona Cubs.

Look no further than Sunday’s start against the Dunedin Blue Jays for yet another case in point.

In the first of four games against the Western Division powerhouse ‘Jays, Mathes (8-5) was flat out dominant as he held Dunedin scoreless, gave up just six hits and struck out six en route to his eighth victory as the Cubs cruised to the 6-0 win.

Daytona was also equal to the task at the plate, as they registered six runs on ten hits and handed Blue Jays lefty Kurt Isenburg (7-8) the series opening loss.

Cubs second baseman Robinson Chirinos went 2-for-3 with a solo homer to lead the charge and third baseman Issmael Salas added a solo blast in the waning moments of the eighth inning.

Chirinos has now continued his torrid pace this month as he is currently batting .333 with four homeruns and nine RBI’s in the month of July.

As for Mathes, he has lowered his ERA to 3.05 with the sparkling outing, and now leads the team in both wins (8) and innings pitched (97.1).

With the victory the Cubs improved to 11-18 on the second half as the Blue Jays fell to 16-14.

The two teams will meet back at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Monday night as the Cubs send righty Anderson Tavarez (3-9, 5.53 ERA) to the bump to square off against Blue Jays righty Michael MacDonald (7-3, 4.48 ERA).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST

TRADED?!?!?!!!!

Could very well be. Hopefully it wasn't injury, because that's the last thing we need is another starter going down, even if it is only a AAA guy.

He's been involved in tons of rumored deals, so it could very well be a deal is in place involving Wellemeyer, and with Iowa taking an early lead, they might have just wanted to play it safe.

Actually I guess that doesn't make much sense...they had a 2-0 lead and he gave up the HR making it 2-1, why would they pull him after that inning? Maybe Phil Norton needed innings...

TRADED?!?!?!!!!

Oh great, all we need is another guy getting out of Iowa before we can finish our Q & A sessions!

It could also be they were looking to get him more bullpen work for an upcoming callup.

Is this it? Does anyone know anything? Welly is one of my favorite prospects, and I don't like seeing him out after 2 innings.
