What if Baker had the Cardinals or White Sox? Would he have them in their current positions? Despite my strong dislike for Guilllen and LaRussa I respect them and what they've done. As for my answer - I believe Baker would have the Cardinals or White Sox in the same state the Cubs are currently in...

[Pulp Fiction]That's a bold statement.[/Pulp Fiction]

Really though, that's an interesting What If. Do you have any specific reasoning behind this? It could be an interesting debate. I don't think Baker could sabotage the Cards too bad, but I've got a feeling that Guillen is just right for the Sox this year, and I don't think anyone else could match what he's done.

I would be willing to bet that if you took any team in the Majors and switched managers with the Cubs, that team would be worse and the Cubs would be better. I am not saying that because I dislike Dusty Baker, I am saying that because Dusty Baker is the worst manager in baseball.

Imagine if Baker was managing the Cards 4 years ago. Pujols would have rode the bench and he'd eventually be traded for some retread backup outfielder and a bucket of balls. That's funny and sad at the same time.

Reasons for my take on what Baker would do with the Cardinals or

White Sox:

1. The little things - hitting behind the runners, making contact in contact situations, base running - the Cubs inability to consistently do things well is not for lack of talent, it's Baker' inability to get them playing solid baseball.

2. Lineup roulette - Need I say more?

3. The bullpen - how many times have we seen him misuse Remlinger, overuse/end Wuertz/Fox? Statistics? Baker reminds me of Han Solo, when he told C3PO, after informed of the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field - "Never tell me the odds..." (or something to that extent - Empire Strikes Back)

Are you saying that Dusty would cost the Cardinals 12 games out of the first 90 or so? You know, the players do stuff too. I think you guys are overestimating the ineptitude of Dusty. I think he is one of the worst too, but there is no way he is responsible for 27% of the teams losses (12/45)
