Looking forward to some free baseball tonight! Yeah it's two 7 inning games but it's going to be fun. In addition, many of you know that tonight includes an auction to benefit the JDRF. NSBB will be trying to pick up a night in the broadcast booth to be used before the end of the season. Vance and mhuber have my contact info and will be keeping up with the auction throughout the night.

If you would like to help with a donation, please check my list of things to sale in the baseball discussions forum or simply PM me with the amount that you would like to donate. Thank you for your help!

The Peoria matchup:

RH Walt Nolen (6-3, 4.86) vs. RH Fernando Rodriguez(5-4, 4.86 ERA)

From the Chiefs website. This would be the first game Nolen has started this season for Peoria. Shaver's turn is due; I'm not sure why he's not starting.

ETA, d'oh, yesterday's game summary explains.

Jesse Schmidt who is 6-for-12 in the last three games, missed Friday’s game with an injured quad muscle…Shortstop Joe Simokaitis stayed in Peoria with an injured back and pitcher Chris Shaver didn’t make the trip due to a battle with strep throat…

Iowa: LHP John Koronka (7-6, 4.22) vs. RHP Danny Tamayo (4-6, 5.44)

Daytona, West Tenn, or Boise don't have anything listed.

Also, a few notes from the Boise game summary from last night. Notes: Jeff Culpepper was called up to play for the Cubs affiliate in Peoria…Alfred Joseph and Jake Muyco left the game early with injuries…..There is no word yet on the severity of the injuries… Kyle Reynolds had the night off so his hit streak remains at six games.

Sisk, wearing #13, just launched a 2-run HR to give the Jaxx a 2-0 lead.

Luis, wearing Murton's #25, double inside the bag in his first AB but was part of a 6-5-3 on a grounder to short. Not sure how the batter was out at first (I think he rounded the bag and didn't get back in time).

Pinto leaves after 5 innings of shutout ball on 3 hits, 5 walks, and 5 strikeouts. He's in line for the win as the Diamond Jaxx have a comfortable 6-0 lead.

Montanez hits a 2-run double, his 2nd of the evening, to make it 9-0 Diamond Jaxx is the 6th.

Bacon scored from first on that hit, so his groin must be doing okay.

Sounds like Luis likes AA ball. :D

I'm about to post the box from Mesa. I picked up NCAA 2006 today and I got a bit sidetracked.

The 2nd double was a shot over the center fielder.

9-3 the final in game one.

And see you in three weeks.

Nolen pitches 5 innings of shutout baseball -- 2 hits, 4Ks, 0BBs.

Victor Ramos in now.

An exciting attempted steal of home was foiled by the Chiefs in the top of the 6th (before I tuned in the broadcast ... of course).

RBI double for Harvey; 2nd HR for Aaron Smith.

Harvey's HR the other night tied him for the current MWL lead with 15.

Chiefs 3-0 into the bottom of the 7th.

Jonathon Douillard with his first pro home run, 4-0 Chiefs to the 9th.

Chiefs win 4-0! Very nice start by Nolen! =D>

ETA (from the Chiefs game summary): Nolen is now 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in ten innings against Cedar Rapids on the season. :)

sweated through five innings of the i-cub game tonight. patterson's first inning single was an 0-2 high fastball that he lined hard up the middle. stole 2nd easily after that. dubois reached on an E5 after that...if the 3b would have had his wits about him, he possibly could have nabbed corey, who had strayed a bit far from 2nd. dubois was promptly picked off 1b by the catcher during mcclain's ab. mcclain tripled off the cf wall to score corey.

corey popped to the pitcher in his 2nd ab, as he was sawed off badly...he broke two bats in his first two ab's. dubois flew out to medium deep cf in his 2nd ab.

patterson got up 3-0 in his 3rd ab, took a strike, then flew out to right...not the best at bat.

koronka's a bad guy to be pitching when the heat index is 98. he nibbles so much that he goes to two balls on just about every guy, and each batter hits a couple foul balls per ab.

kelton continues to impress me. i'm convinced he could be at least a serviceable backup of. seems like he always hits the ball hard when i'm there. i'd like to see him play some cf when corey comes back up/is traded. also, frese was playing 3b...has he played there before?

Coats' RBI double ties the game at 3-3 but he's thrown at at third after trying to stretch it into a triple.

E-Patt is leading the MWL in BA and is 4th in OBP (39 walks in 73 games)... he's proved himself at that level. Time for Daytona.

Nooo, not until I have the chance to get out to Peoria and see him!

NOES! The Chiefs have a hard enough time winning with him in the lineup! =;

(I would like to see him in Daytona soon.)

Any feedback on the auctions at West Tenn?

When I talked to DJaxx he was saying that there is another auction in a couple of weeks so it was slow at first but the auctions were going until the 5th inning of the 2nd game so there was a long way to go. Any other news about it I will let DJaxx tell the story (don't want to steal his thunder). They had some good stuff that was autgraphed. Apparently lots of the Murton stuff was selling high.

One note though that I don't think he would mind me telling is that they were auctioning off the ceremonial 1st pitch at an upcoming game. I think that is a great thing for charity. Imagine this being done once a week at wrigley and all teh proceeds going to JDRF. It would seem to be a no brainer and the company doing it would get a tax write off for a good cause. It could be called the JDRF first pitch (better the the 5th 3rd bank 5th inning)

Reyes strikes again!

He singles in Coats to end the game in the 8th and give the Jaxx a 4-3 win.
