Stars and pinstripes

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, three players could be wearing pinstripes by the end of July: Cincinnati center fielder Ken Griffey Jr., if the Reds decide to make the ultimate salary dump; Florida right-hander A.J. Burnett, but the Marlins will want a young pitcher back (likely rookie Chien-Ming Wang); or Cubs center fielder Corey Patterson, who has fallen out of favor in Chicago.

Would be interested to see what we could do with that. With Wang going on the DL could we see:

Patterson and Rusch + prospect for Sheffield

I doubt it because the Yankees are contending now and Rusch doesnt seem like the impact pitcher that the Yankees would be looking for. But it's worth thinking about

Well wang is out so the Yankees ain't getting AJ. I think Raw discussed a three way with the Yanks and Reds that would net the Cubs Dunn. I don't remember the particulars though.

Raw proposed this three-way trade between the Cubs, Yanks, and Reds:

Cubs get: Dunn, Christian Garcia (NYY pitching prospect)

Yanks get: Patterson, Walker

Reds get: Williams, Hill, Hughes, and Cabrera

We'd just have to hope that poor little Sheff wouldn't be unhappy in Wrigley and start publicly whining about it. I also seem to recall that his play goes in the tank while he's sulking.

Would you really want Sheff playing in Chicago? He went on a tirade about how if he was traded he wouldn't put forth maximum effort and any team he was traded to wouldn't be happy b/c he (sheffield) wouldn't be happy.

no thanks. anyone remember how the Yanks were thinking about trading Matsui 5 weeks ago? hahaha. They have no faith in players. btw, i'd definitely take Matsui for Rusch and CPat...never happen, but i would, lol.

I brought this possibility up in the origional Sheffield thread. I posted a blurb about htem wanting a "quick, good defensive center fielder" and i brought up Cpat. I could definatley see him in pinstripes (the black ones).

Wonder if we could find a way to package Walker, Cpatt, and some others to get Sheffield and Cano....

Probably not. Realistically though, I'd like to get sheff.

I shouldn't need to be restated, but:

Sheffield will not be traded by the Yankees. If by some miracle he did accept a trade it would probably be to put an extra $3 Million dollars in his pocket this year.

Not to be harsh - I got hammered for it the last time we talked about Sheff. Then Sheffield came out firing about how there was no way in hell he was leaving.

I almost forgot about his little hissy fit. But, I dont know who else i really would want on that team. Outside of cano. (and arod, but i'm talking realistically)

Id take Giambi(with them eating lots of payroll of course) in a heartbeat, but we have nowhere to play him. He was horrible in the OF.

Giambi is among the worst fielder's in general. Even the Yanks much rather have him DH. He has no place in the National League.

Yech. No thanks on Giambi. Off the juice he's not the same hitter he once was.

What about Patterson and Rusch for Tom Gordon and Melky Cabrera?

I don't think Sheffield will be traded. Getting Gordon would set the back end of our pen up.

The Yanks have cut Quantrill, Karsay, and Stanton recently. Gordon's their 8th inning guy right now, I doubt they move him unless overwhelmed.

You have a point, but if they trade for Chacon, couldn't they use him out of the pen? Also, they should be getting Rodriguez back for the pen soon.

Weren't they about to DFA him right before he got hurt?

No that it matter as the Yankees don't really have anything that fits the Cubs needs unless Sierra could still play LF. Hendry has said that he's not after a rental so any trade would have to be for kids that Dusty won't play or involve a 3rd team.

Question is, exactly how good is the Yankee's farm system?

I keep hearing that it's not very good, even though I couldn't get a real solid confirmation.

Their upper minors SUCK.

I was trying to say get young, but the only ones I want are Melky (the only upper minors prospect they have), Clippard, and Hughes.

I'd take Colter Bean though.

I take that "Rodriguez" fellow, with the Yankees eating most of the contract.

He's mashing again, and I fully expect him to continue. The guy is loaded with talent, bottom line. He's finally got himself back on track, imo. I dont expect him to put up MVP numbers again, but he's going to hit.

C'mon, Sheffield is a punk, who'd want that jerk?? Ask your friends in Milwaukee and Los Angeles what they think of old Sheff.

I'd be happy to send the Yanks Patterson though, Rusch too, sounds like a plan. Give me Eric Duncan and Colter Bean back in exchange, please. I'll use both as currency in my trade package for Carlos Lee.

Why Carlos Lee? He's got a bunch of RBI this year, but his numbers on the whole don't suggest paying through the roof to get him(.268/.340/.528).

Who plays 2b and cf for the Cubs?? I'm guessing Hairston in cf. Neifi at 2b?? :(
