Heck Yes, I'm on!

As a side note, I first heard about Matt Murton from his sister Sara, with whom I've had several journalism classes at GSU, a real nice girl she is. She's always been real proud of her brother, and with good reason. Man, that Georgia Tech baseball program sure is gaining some prestige. Their list of MLer's keeps growing.

Some quotes from Diamond Jaxx hitting Coach Von Joshua on Murton. (From the latest Vineline, article was written by Ron Potesta):

"He drives me crazy, you don't find too many young kids who come along and want to work the way this kid works. Sometimes, I actually have to back him off and get him to accept and go with his abilities. At times, he gets a little too analytical with his approach on hitting."

"He's one of the smartest young kids when it comes to recognizing what his abilities are and what the pitchers are trying to do to him. If all the young guys had his work ethic, there would be no problems."

I'm on! He's looking good in his first game...looks like he's patient, uses all fields, agressive on the basepaths, and should be a fun player to watch.

I also dig the name: Murton. That's a pro name right there.

Yep, I am jumping on too.

What does it say when the two players with the best approaches tonight are the two rookies!!

Anyone else notice that they showed Matt twice in the dugout--once with Maddux and once with Lee

Ya--he gets "it"

I feel Vance should have shotgun, he's probably wearing his jersey as we speak!

I've got time to ride this one considering I just parked the Dubois BandWGN in Des Moines.

And yes, that is one nice jersey!

There's no doubt in my mind I'm hopping on, as long as there's room of course.

This is for Matt Freaking Murton. For a player this awesome, there is always room.

Thank Murton's patience as another Boston OBP-based draft pick. This point was driven home at a BoSox game at Safeco this year where every players' OBP was .100 better than their batting avg. Imagine if all of our players walked 10% of the time. Here's hoping Murton can bring that to this team that could really use it!

It was just so refreshing to see a young player TAKE PITCHES, draw a walk, and put that walk to use and come around to score. I mean seriously...when was the last time we had a guy walk and come around to score...

"I was really fortunate today to get the opportunity to play in this game, and more important than my individual success, is that the team got a 'W' and hopefully we can get the ball rolling," Murton said.

He did have a few butterflies.

"Of course, you're going to be a little anxious and nervous," Murton said. "It was huge how these guys treated us when we came in the clubhouse. I think there were definitely some nerves before the game started, but once it started, you realize it's just baseball and you try to go out and compete."

Awesome, I <3 Matt.

Here's a great line from Matt from the Q & A we did:

My goal as a baseball player is to continue to get better each and everyday. Refining my game to the point were I can contribute to the sucess of the Chicago Cubs. I watch the Cubs and keep up with them as much as possible, trying to familiarize my self with the club as much as possible. The organization has been great so far and they are always working hard at getting the most out of their players.

For those of you who may be new, Matt did a Q & A not too long ago for us here at NSBB. To read hte session, click here
