Javier Herrera of Kane County was the replacement OFer named to the Futures Game - World Team (too bad Pie won't be back in time :( ). Looks like he's the only MWL player in the game.

Hmm, can't remember him. Of course, that's just because all of the Cougars seemed to have at least 2 hits by the time I left in the 5th so nobody stood out on that team.

He went 4-6 with a HR and 5 RBIs in the blowout game. :(

He was picked off a couple of times, though, which seems to happen to him a lot (vs the Chiefs, anyway).

CS: Herrera, J (3, 2nd base by Johnson/Rick).

PO: Herrera, J (1st base by Johnson).

Lovely piece.

Something to keep in mind when considering Dopirak and Harvey (especially Harvey):

"He's still the highly-touted bat he was coming out of high school, it's just taken him more time to get adjusted. If there's one thing I've seen differently between last year and now, it's improved patience. He'll still swing and miss a lot, but there is more consistency from at-bat to at-bat. Some guys don't perform miracles right from the start--and you have to remember that this year he'd just be finishing up his sophomore year in college."

He was also suspended at the beginning of the year for steriods.

I was asking earlier in the season if Moore had passed Dopirak - since they're only a few months apart in age and Dope has struggled so much. With Brian putting up 2 homers in his last 42 games, and that being his only projectable skill (plus a little average), I'd say Moore's got to be ahead of him now.

I agree. I was willing to give Brian the benefit of the doubt after last season when it was a 2-month slump. Now it's over 3 months.

In fairness to Dopirak, Moore is repeating high class-A ball after hitting .223/.322/.384 last year. I do ago that their relative ages is a point in Moore's favor, though.

The age is what tipped me in favor of Scott Moore, but I still think they're close in ranking as prospects. There's no way Moore (or most players) can come close to what Dopirak did last year, and I think that gives Dopirak a lot of leeway this season.
