Terrified of this upcoming Ohio State game. I have a sneaky feeling that the fourth quarter in the OSU - Texas game was an early season mirage and that OSU might actually be the best team in the country.

I think OSU's defense is pedestrian by their standards, the Illini rolled up big yards on them 460+ and only scored 19 points because they couldn't get out of their way.  Wouldn't expect Indiana to be as mistake prone.  On the other hand Indiana won't have the benefit of playing against an incompetent QB, Sayin is actually good.  Unlike the Huskers' QB who, despite some nice scrambles, is a substandard passer.

UCLA QB Iamaleava is out for the season, could make their game vs Wisconsin a bit more interesting

I approve of this slate of games. Hopefully the games deliver.

No guarantees on the game, but the atmosphere in Provo is going to be absolutely bananas. Apparently it is the first game there ever where both teams are in the top 10.

Realignment news: James Madison is jumping to the American from the Sun Belt no later than 2028.

Sounds like they are likely to approve the 24 team playoff.  I HATE the 12 team playoff, and I'd still prefer less teams.  I've honestly watched a fraction of college football compared to the 4 team era.  Like literally as I'm typing this, I just realized that Georgia/Bama played last weekend and I had no idea who won.  In previous years I would have been glued to my TV to see who wins.  But both teams will probably make the playoffs so meh.

Anyways, I actually think a 24 team playoff might be better than 12 team though (but not 4 team).  I think it basically makes it so the first round is like those 2nd tier bowl games and they now have stakes instead of meaningless with half the players sitting out (not sure if they'd be played as bowl games or on campus).  It keeps more teams invested in the season.  Like right now I'm completely checked out on Michigan's season.  I've watched preseason UM basketball games and don't plan to watch whoever the football team is playing next weekend.  In a 24 team playoff there would still be some interest in seeing if they could get their horsefeathers together.

Regardless, it's never going to be like when I'd check my phone and see an unranked Texas A&M is winning vs. undefeated Alabama late and racing to the TV to see if the entire college season will be upended.  Those days are sadly over forever.

Looks up ... That was an excellent post. However, it still doesn't makeup for your unwillingness to answer for all things Michigan football. 😀

I didn't mind 12 as originally proposed, but everyone involved moved at warp speed to kill everything good about it.

I can't imagine ever watching another college football game not involving my teams prior to November anymore, nor any playoff game prior to the quarterfinals. I basically already don't. I catch snippets of games when I'm home.

It's interesting everybody's perspective.  Because I will reiterate, 12 teams has reinvigorated college football for me.  So many more fun games.

I will say, this weekend is kind of the perfect example of both sides though.  Ohio State/Indiana and Notre Dame/BYU had more stakes under the old system.  Alabama/Tennessee, Missouri/Ole Miss, Mississippi State/LSU, Oklahoma State/Houston all have more stakes under the new system.

I do not like the move to 24 teams though.  Because with 12 you have a differentiation every 4 teams.  Bye teams, home teams, road teams.  And the cut line of the 12th/13th best team matters because the 12th best team absolutely has a chance to win the title.  Miami got close as the last team in and ND was playing as well as anybody as the last team out.

In 24 you only have differentiations every 8 teams, so every seed and the order doesn't matter nearly as much.  And plus the 24th/25th best team argument is an argument, but those teams are rarely even coming close to winning the title.

I would agree that 12 actually did a pretty good job threading the needle. A ton of games meant a lot and a few games did mean less, but with a couple exceptions they usually meant something. So naturally they blew it up almost immediately.

Moving to 24 means almost all B1G and SEC games mean basically nothing, almost no G6 games mean anything because the committee is immediately going to stop ranking any of them to ensure only 1 of them gets in, and the only games that actually do mean anything are between teams who have already proven they aren't really that good. It's truly the worst of all worlds.

Remember the years when we bemoaned there was no playoff? I guess be careful what you wish for! 24 feels like too many to me. Teams will be up to what, 16 games? On the other hand, many are being paid now, so someone is coming along and saying- time to go to work guys.

So frustrating, the IU defense has Sayin playing like Bo Callahan and people are starting to question if his teammates went to his birthday party. Meanwhile OSU is still up 6.

Hoover is playing hurt and this isn't the same OSU defense the Illini moved the ball on at will.

If I was an OSU fan I would be livid about that roughing call

Yes, Indiana has been teeing off on Sayin and that's roughing?
