How does that make any sense, Skubal had zero leverage on the Tigers.

It wouldn’t be the first time that a team who feels somewhat indebted to a player moves him where he wants to go. With that said, they did go to arbitration last offseason.

There's a lot of conspiracy around the Dodgers offer but the obvious explanation is that the Tigers' view of Ryan is similar to Fangraphs: number 22 propsect in all of Baseball and "a monster the second he's healthy"

Bingo. Lance had a great video breaking down the values of the trade and if you look at prospects in the way Eric did, it was a massive overpay.

The simplest answer is most likely true: the Tigers just really like River Ryan and don't care he's 28.

They didn't have to trade Skubal, they were will within the playoff picture, hell, with Skubal, even the AL Central was still in play.  They, not the Dodgers, are ruining baseball, cowards.  I hope this trade blows up in Tigers' faces.

Interesting thing that kind of snuck up on me: next year's bullpen is already kind of set?

CL - Palencia

SU - Zef, Webb

MR - Rolison, Maton, Shelby Miller, Turd Ferguson

LRP - Assad

You'd ideally add one more setup guy over Ferguson, and of course the usual gaggle of NRIs, but that's more YoY consistency than we've had since at least the Rondon/Strop era?

I mean, half the players on that list are hurt and not pitching right now, so it's hard to call the bullpen set for next year.
