Larry Walker hit a grounder to the first base man, force at 2nd, than back to first for the double play. Jennings the pitcher was covering and as he's catcing the throw Larry Walker Pushes him in the back and he drops the ball and a runs scores. Some how the ump didn't see it I guess....

I wonder if Larry got a curtain call for that great play.

No, but I'm sure someone will start a thread on a website trying to make something about nothing regarding it.

So, are you trying to defend that play in a round-about way? It was OK that he did that? You're acting like you don't care about someone on your team cheating.

Come on, it was nearly as bad as A-Rod's and the guy (A-Rod) was practically lynched for it. I'm not trying to get a rise out of anyone, I saw it on BBTN, and was surprised no one was talking about it yet because it was a real cheap play. This is a place to talk about baseball and that's what I was doing. My curtain call statement was a little rough, but you Cardinals have this mystique of playing the game the right way and all this stuff and it's stuff like this that I think should be made a bigger deal. I mean if someone on most anyother team did that, I bet it would be a much bigger deal. Heck the Juan Uribe telling Derrek Lee to stop caused a full blown yelling at each other segment on BBTN and this was glossed over.

Troll = To patrol (an area) in search for someone or something. Baiting basically the same thing, so yeah he is trolling.

So by that definition, If I had posted "Hey guys I need tickets for tomorrow's game." - that's also trolling because I'm in search of something.

When I posted this, I honestly could care less if any of you Cardinals fans (who I have no problem with any of you, and enjoy your contributions) read and/or replied to it. I just wanted it out there. Like I said above the curtain call statement was a little trolly, but It was in jest. Now if I went to a Cardinal board and posted this, there would be a problem with that.

I think Walker's play is getting lost against the backdrop of all-star game hoopla. Not to mention that it was in a Cards-Rockies game in July and not a Yankees-Red Sox ALCS game, or even a Cubs-White Sox interleague rivalry game.

It was pretty cheap on Walker's part but I think he's getting off easy for the aforementioned reasons, and because he has a reputation as a consumate pro. Personally, I don't think he was trying to be a jerk and push Jennings over. Jennings' leg was sticking across the base, and his butt was kind of intruding into walker's running lane as well. After Rolen's collision at first I don't think Larry was taking any chances, so he just stuck his arm out as he crossed the base and Jennings fell over. I don't think there was any cheap shot intended.

Cardinals fans will react one of three ways.

1 - It was a bush league play, and if A-Rod or Robert Fick (that should hit closer to home) are going to get torn up for it so should he.

That's what I think. Then again, I'm not the world's biggest Larry Walker fan.

2 - He's just being a sly veteran gamer.

3 - SHUT UP SCRUBS FAN YOU SUK END R STUPID LOOSERZ!

Obviously there are rational fans, homer fans, and idiots in all fan bases. I hate how much crap Cardinals fans take for calling themselves "the best fans in baseball" almost as much as I hate the Cards fans who actually think they are the best fans in baseball.

Fair enough, and I'm man enough to admit I may have overreacted over I play I saw twice on a clip show (anddidn'tevennoticethefirsttimeitplayed)

This makes little to no sense. You hate the crap given to the Cards' fans who call themselves the best fans in baseball, but also hate those that call themselves the best fans in baseball?

I'm confused, elaborate.

Is it possible for a Cubs fan to troll on his own forum? Or is that called baiting?

A Cubs fan being accused of trolling a Cubs forum because he starts a thread about a dirty play by a Cardinals player? Wow. This IS a Cubs message board, you know.

You know that picture of the Card's fan holding up the sign that says,"Get a brain, Morans!"? Yesterday I saw this guy at Fair St. Louis who looked just like that: Graying biker mullet, same sun glasses, and he wore a t-shirt reading, "St. Louis, my kind of town."

I wish I'd had my camera cause' I would have posted that picture here and everyone could have had a good laugh.

I still laugh every time I see that photo.

Or maybe Larry was trying to grab him to keep him from being injured just like they do in the NBA with those bearhug fouls during obvious layups

For real, he was just looking out for his ex-teammates. :D

Sorry.

I hate how much crap Cardinals fans take for calling themselves "the best fans in baseball"

I can't stand it when I'm talking about baseball and somebody inevitably brings up something like:

"How come the 'BEST FANS IN BASEBALL' give (insert Cards player and bush league play here) a pass, but if another team did that to them they act like it's a capital offense?"

I hate it when people who don't claim to be the best fans in baseball take crap for it. I've never made a claim that me and my fellow Cardinals fans are the best fans in baseball. Most Cardinals fans know better than to make such an unsubstatiated claim. Not only is it pretentious, but it's impossible to determine who has the best fans in baseball. So what if we cheer an opposing player's great play; some would construe that as a soft streak as opposed to appreciation of good baseball.

almost as much as I hate the Cards fans who actually think they are the best fans in baseball.

There are Cards fans who read articles or hear media members use that moniker and they believe it and start talking trash about it. Then they also jump on the excessive curtain call bandwagon and start voting David Eckstein to all-star games.

Speaking of ARod, Alex just dropped his elbow (armor protected) into a pitch to get on base in the 7th........that cheater.

A runner is entitled to the basepath. It is illegal for a fielder to obstruct the runner's way. Hence it was not illegal for Walker to put a hand on the pitcher's back, any more than it is illegal for a runner to knock over a catcher on a play at the plate. OTOH, it is illegal for a runner to swat a ball out of a fielder's glove, as A-Rod did.

and exactly which substantiated injury does Arod have to be allowed to wear that armor?

why did they even come up with that rule? it might as well not even exist.

as for Walker, another unnoticed cheap play, or at least attempt at a cheap play did take place on a much bigger stage. I'm not sure which game or play, it might have been when Suppan got caught off third, but Walker ran about six feet inside the baseline to try to get in the way of the throw to the plate and angled even farther inside to get infront of the throw to third once he saw the play going that way. he also p's and moans about every called strike, ala Edmonds.

I'm being perfectly honest when I say that I never saw these kinds of actions from him before he became a Cardinal.

Sure, because you weren't looking for them. Did you watch a lot of Rockies games, by the way?

If you've seen Jennings' butt, this should come as no surprise.

I'm pretty sure the fielder is entitlted to the basepath as long as he is fielding the ball. I didn't see the play, so I can't really judge in this case, but I don't think a runner has a right to knock a fielder out of the way that is fielding a throw, regardless of where they are in the basepath.

See Mark prior's interference with Marcus Giles a couple of years ago. Prior was in the basepath, but the baserunner MUST yield to the fielder to allow that fielder to make a play on a batted ball. Otherwise, the baserunner is out.

This case is different because Jennings was not fielding a batted ball, but attempting to catch a throw from a teammate.
