The Chicago Cubs are looking for a big bat to man the hot corner. After recently being tied to Alex Bregman, it sounds like they're also kicking the tires on another third baseman slugger.

Francys Romero is reporting that the Chicago Cubs are interested in free agent third baseman Eugenio Suarez.

With the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners, Suarez logged 49 home runs and scored 91 runs. He carried a .824 OPS and a .347 wOBA, resulting in a 125 wRC+. Defensively at third base, Suarez accumulated a -6 mark in Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and a -3 in Outs Above Average (OAA). At 34 years old, MLBTR predicts Suarez to net $68 million over three years.

Do you think the Cubs should pursue the aging slugger? Let's know in the comments!

Geno Suarez is, by a very wide margin, the free agent I want to stay the furthrst away from this winter.

That said I can't remember a time where Romero was right about anything big, so I'm not sweating this.

The man will give you two good seasons of prodigious power and is adequate at third base defensively.  Plus, he seems to do very well at Wrigley.  This is an easy "yes" for me

Don't fall for the Cub Killer fallacy. He makes Dansby's slumps look like a game.

This.  He has fall off a cliff written all over him and we'd all be pulling our hair out watching him not get to balls Shaw easily handles, especially with the existing pitching staff.

NO ! I wouldn't take Suarez for free !  He is a poor fielder, slow runner and streaky hitter and old.

We have a promising 3B in Shaw, who is young, inexpensive, superb runner and great defender, second only to Hayes in defensive runs saved. He has more power than my fave, Hoerner, and tho he was streaky also, after the A.S. break he was really good at the plate until the very last days and playoff.

I agree Bertz.  Hell, Shaw was better than him in every phase of the game the last two months of the season.  I think his hot streak early in the year this past season will prove to be far more the exception than the norm moving forward.  I have little confidence he can duplicate that going on 35.
