Does anybody know what is going on with him? He was injured and carried off in that game last week and hasn't played since. I haven't seen any articles posted on him since then so I was just wondering if anybody knews if this is a serious thing that will require a lot of time off or will he be back shortly after the SL ASB.

Jon said in a boxes and discussion thread a couple days back that he was put on the 7-Day DL.

I was wondering if there was any more exact news on what was going on with him. Ron, want to fill us in? :)

From the games I have listened to there have been more than a couple of games that Felix has come up hobbling on a baserunning play. But yes, he is on the 7 day DL.

I'm not sure there has been any news, although I haven't been able to listen in a few days. As was mentioned, he did go on the 7-day DL just in time for a needed roster move and the initial diagnosis was "slight ankle sprain" before the tests. ITI doesn't have any info, so it may just be that there haven't been any updates.

Hopefully Ron can fill us in, although I know he wasn't able to get much internet access when they were visiting the Braves.

From the Jaxx newsletter:

To make room on the roster, the Diamond Jaxx have placed OF Felix Pie on the seven day DL with a sprained right ankle. Pie sprained the ankle sliding into third base during the first game of the doubleheader against Mississippi on June 16th. Pie has appeared in fifty-nine games with the Diamond Jaxx. He is hitting .304 with eleven homers and twenty-five RBI's. He has also stolen thirteen bases.

Felix sprained his ankle sliding into third base about a week and a half ago. He is still on the DL and will remain on the DL until he is able to run on it without any pain. The Cubs aren't going to mess around with this injury. He is going to be brought back very slowly so the injury doesn't get reaggrevated.

Cheers to not rushing him back...Hopefully, he'll be in the lineup (and 100% healthy) when you return to Mobile later this summer.

Okay kids, the latest Felix Pie update. He has a bone bruise on the inside of his ankle. He should be out for about two more weeks which means he probably won't be available for either the Futures or the Southern League All-Star game.

Ouch, poor Felix. He'll have missed over a month, then. :(

That's a shame. Hopefully it won't be any longer than that.

This is from the Jackson Sun's Weekly Jaxx Report:

The progress on Felix Pie's ankle has been slow. He's off his crutches and walking with only a slight limp, but the outfielder still might be two weeks away from appearing in a game.

"There's no reason to rush him, so I'm not going to," Dickerson said. "He might be back in a week, but it might be after the all-star break. I want him to be 100% before I put him on the field."

The Jaxx have sorely missed Pie's presence in the lineup. The team is 5-8in the time he's missed.

In other words...dang.

Wow, it really is true. Whereever this guy goes, he wins. And when he isn't there...

Last night on Baseball Tonight Peter Gammons stated that before Felix Pie hurt his ankle, the Cubs were just about to call him up to start in center because they were in such a need for an offensive spark in the lead off position.

There was no way we were going to call him up. Gammons had some sort of bad source.

Maybe not. The cubs.com articleabout tonight's demotions mentioned the same thing.

Peter had a bad source. Pie isn't ready to play in the show. He strikes out at an even more alrming rate than Cory does. Truth be told, he isn't going to be as good a lead-off hitter as people think. Pie is going to be a middle of the order type guy unless he makes more consistent contact. Giving away 1/5 of your AB's with strikeouts is unacceptable if your a lead-off hitter.

You know that, we know that, but do the Cubs know that?

Looks like Pie will be back this Tuesday. Finally some good news. From the Tribune (scroll down)

Double-A West Tenn center fielder Felix Pie is slated to return from his ankle injury Tuesday. Pie, who would have been called up to the Cubs when Patterson was demoted July 7 if not for the injury, will need some at-bats before he's ready to get the call. He's certain to be brought up Sept. 1, when rosters expand.

Yay and boo. What could possibly be the point of having him miss the playoffs to sit on the bench?

He'll get very valuable experience watching Jose Macias playing CF.
