The venn diagram of people who think Matt Shaw (or Ian Happ, or whatever) suck and will continue to suck because of past results and people who think the team (in first place, 95 win pace through 94 games) sucks because of sliced and diced reasons is basically a circle and it's fascinating. What a way to live.

Basically, be like Greg, not like Ryan

The Cubs are a half game out of the #1 seed in the NL.  This fanbase is deeply deeply dumb

It's funny,  I kind of disagree with everyone.

While the constant gnashing of teeth over small sample sizes is always annoying, I also have a hard time with the push to adopt a completely dispassionate objectivity, where we simply watch and nod silently at the randomness inherent in the sport.

I can recognize that Ian Happ is a good baseball player and that he has hit into some bad luck recently.  I am also pained by some of his PAs, and wish someone were on base more often for the historically brutal gauntlet that is Tucker/Suzuki/PCA/Busch (All top 10 in NL wRC+, bonkers)

I love analytics and taking time to be objective and parse data, but emotion is a big part of the recipe that makes fandom enjoyable as well.   Sometimes I even yell at the t.v.

Last night was the fake team. The fake team has scored 12 runs in the last 60 innings vs left handed starting pitchers. The real team will show up vs Max Fried this afternoon and Carson Kelly will club 3 homers in as many at bats. They’ll put that 153 wRC+ in April vs lefties handed handed pitchers to good use this afternoon.

Fake team still in lineup today with Berti and Turner in...

Get ready to hear about that wRC+ Vs left handed pitchers that was inflated by an insane April. We need that reassurance that our eyes are deceiving us.

I’m certainly not trying to say that everyone should sit back and watch dice roll and nod sagely at the outcome. Definitely get emotionally into it, it’s just the constant negativity around here that gets to me. Go back to the comfortable win threads (there are many) and besides them being much shorter you’ll notice the same posters just conveniently…missed those games or something.

this was a team that the optimists were projecting for upper 80s in wins going into the year. It’s basically the all star break and we’re at a 95 win pace. If you can’t be happy about this team, maybe baseball just isn’t for you
