Why is speed only valuable in the leadoff spot? Why would you turn a guy that "Can't get on base enough" into a slap hitter? The one thing Patterson has done is hit for HR power. Why change the one thing he's doing right?

Sorry for the multiple posts but the fire wall here at school as kicked me out twice deleting the one long one that answered all these issues.

Defensively I'd take Patterson over Jim Edmonds any day of the week. The comparison to Andruw Jones is interesting. Take a look at where Jones was when he was Patterson's age and you'll likely see a lot of paralells.

I don't you said "slap hitter" I just want him to hit something.

Don't watch baseball much??Edmonds is known for his basket catches, over the shoulder,Patterson is not in the same league defensivly as Edmonds.Lets see Corey keep his fielding % up to .987 in another 600 games, won't happen.

Yah Jones was hitting .303 with 104 rbi's.

However, as it stands right now Patterson has more HRs than Beltran.

And waaayyyy more s/o's.Don't compare him to Beltran he'll never be anything close to him.Yes he does have more homers but Beltran has a better avg. and more rbi's in less at bats.

Solid retort.

So you'd like him to shorten his swing and focus on making contact. That may lead to more base hits but fewer doubles and HRs.

I'm guessing you're a big fan of Baseball tonight. Edmonds is all flash and little substance. If he got better jumps on the ball he wouldn't need to dive all the time.

A word to the wise, comments like these to anyone will make your stay here very short. Though I must admit that they make somewhat nostalgic for my Cubs.com days.

Andruw Jones did hit .303 in 2000. What you neglected to mention was what he did the next 4 years

2001 .251-------.312--------.461------142 Ks

2002 .264-------.366--------.513------135

2003 .277-------.338--------.513------125

2004 .261-------.345--------.488------147

2005 .250-------.313--------.486-------44

I guess you must have missed that when you were looking up his career best year.

And he said "nice retort " to me,is that all you can come up with.

And here come the threats, because your case is weak and invalid, you resort to this when you know your wrong! If they want to ban me so be it.

Well with comments like Corey being the next comming of Beltran and Edmonds dives to much because he doen't get a good jump on the ball, and the one I love the most,Patterson is better defensivly than Edmonds, maybe you should go back!

Even when he hit .251 in 2001 he still had 104 rbi's,Patterson has yet to achieve that!

I guess we'll have to agree we disagree on this point.

Man, quit with the attitude already. If you don't mind getting banned from this site, then you aren't really interested in talking baseball, particularly Cub baseball. A number of mistakes:

First, I said "solid retort", not "nice retort".

Second, biittner was defending his position. He didn't take your childish baiting.

Third, he didn't threaten you, he gave you some much needed advice. He isn't a mod, so he can't ban you. However, he is dead on.

Fourth, mocking any comments by any poster in this thread is unnecessary and unwelcome.

1. I never said Patterson was the second coming of Beltran. I compared him to Jones and the numbers I believe support that argument

2. I didn't mean that as a threat and don't want you to get banned.

3. I stand by what I said about Edmonds. Though I admit I might be biased as he is the most loathesome player in MLB as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to just trying to state my case, didn't mean to rub you the wrong way.I'm Sorry

Cool. Just remember, you don't have to agree with everyone, just keep the disagreement civil.

I will go on record and say Patterson WILL BE as good as Carlos Beltran, mostly because I think Beltran is severely overrated. It may not be this year, it may not be next year, but Corey will get it. I just hope the Cubs don't give up on him before this happens. Feel free to rip me on this.

I think it's ironic that 25/26 year old CPatt is tired and gets some rest but 85 year old Burnitz hasn't had a day off yet.

That's just because Baker needs to save Patterson for when the weather heats up. Jeromy's people are at their best in cool weather, and he'll get his days off in July/August.

Approaching 80 is hot? I disagree, and so does Johnnie B. Dusty logic holds and cannot be refuted!

Is it me, or do other people think that the poster looks like the person in thier avatar, even though you know it's not them. I've always associated Raisin (and other people with a person as thier avatar) with that avatar, and find it weird (although I shouldn't) when I find out the person looks completely different.

I guess it's just me, though. I'll go back into my corner.

If I looked like my avatar, I'd be happy. :D

Had a vindictive ex-gf tell me I looked like mine.

Sometimes it throws me off when people change avatars.

The big one for me is that I mentally cluster similar posters together, and sometimes I forget to distinguish them. For example:

SSR and XZero77

T2E and BK

Geech and Diffusion

The list goes on. Anyone else do this?

BTW Geech, it took me a while to seriously read your posts when you first started posting because it felt like every one of your posts had a  smiley implying some sarcasm.

I just like finding out about NSBB posters. Some of them I'll be like "huh, (username) is female? I wouldn't have guessed by the username. They're a damn good poster" Or "Huh, Raisin is black. Cool."

Ok, just by my username and post history how many of you thought I was a big fat hairy overweight white boy? All of you? Thought so.

You're all correct in that assumption, btw. ;)
