As will I.

Maybe some of the position players.

It just seems that we all complain about the pitchers being overpitched as it is.

the whole setup really kind of scares me. some of these teams might take this really, really seriously. what if z is so overwhelmed with national pride that he tells his coach that he can throw 130 pitches every third day? i hope there are some assurances built in that make sure this can't happen.

Japan looks down on Classic"]Although most of the tournament sponsors are Japanese companies, profits would go into a fund created by MLB and major league players. The Japanese establishment will reportedly receive only 7 percent of the pot, which could make it difficult to cover expenses, including pay to players and staff.

"The purpose of the tournament is to make money for MLB," said a source within NPB who declined to be identified.

I hope this is just posturing, and there's plenty of time to get it worked out.

To be fair, I'm guessing that the vast majority of expenses will be covered by MLB as most of the tournament is being held here in the States. (Facilities, staff, promotion... that kind of thing.) Still, I'd hope that whatever money is made from this thing is split up evenly and fairly between the participants.

Jim Allen, Daily Yomiuri"]World Classic agreement still far away

Japan's participation in next March's World Baseball Classic is not assured, and the clock is ticking for Nippon Professional Baseball to sign off on the deal before Major League Baseball announces the details of the tournament--and its participants--on July 11.

At issue is how income for the tournament is being handled, Kazuo Hasegawa, the secretary general of NPB's commissioners office, told reporters Monday.

All proceeds from the tournament, including the sale of rights to promote the Asian qualifiying round in Japan, will go into a single fund that will later be divided among the participating organizations.

The Japanese side believes the sale of those promotional rights should go to NPB and not to the general fund--to be shared by everyone.

"If we allow Japan a separate deal, it would ruin the whole business model," said Jim Small, managing director of MLB Japan, who thought he had an agreement in principle last November, when representatives from MLB, NPB and the Korean Baseball League met in Tokyo.

According to Hasegawa, however, there was a major miscommunication.

"Our understanding was that our agreement was to take part in the tournament, and that we would voice our concerns at a December meeting of the steering committee," said Hasegawa. "But MLB canceled that meeting without any explanation."

Small rejected that assertion, saying he notified NPB of the cancelation because MLB was still waiting for an agreement with the International Baseball Federation, a deal that was concluded in March.

NPB has informed Small that no decision can be final until it is approved by the 12 owners in mid-July.

On paper, that allows no time for a deal to be done as NPB's ultimate decision makers have shown a historic inability to reach agreement on anything.

Last year, however, owners showed remarkable quickness of action in approving a new franchise in time for this season--something owners said would be impossible--after the players union held their feet to the fire by going on strike.

I think the world games would be interesting. But I have some questions. The winter leagues will be over or just concluding. Their pitchers will be ready. But what about our pitching? Are we going to risk injury when our pitchers should be in spring training at this time working a few innings at a time to get ready for the season. Other sports can do this but I do not think baseball can because of the pitching element. Pitchers have a hard time not hurting their arms as it is. Major and Minor League baseball is enough for me. I for one do not want baseball to go world wide. We have enough competition and travel as it is. I do not want to be negative but someone please tell me what I am missing.

I'm sure they'd be getting thier arms in shape weeks before the competition, and not just going in and throwing 7 innings cold.

It takes all spring for a pitcher to get his arm in shape just to start the season, not to go 9 innings , just start. And I am sure they start getting ready on their own before that. Then they have the whole season after that. I just think it is too much strain on their arms and the risk is too great. The main season is here in the U.S. and that is enough. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe I am just dreaming of all the arm problems in the major and minor leagues.

I could get behind a concept that had teams from around the world playing each other (either World Cup Tournament style or best of each region style). Or if you want an all-star team to count for something, make it that. The best players from asia vs the best from the US, seven game series, alternating home field advantage for the series each year.

What about Latin America? I think if you did North America vs. Asia it wouldn't work either. Too different being from the US and being from the DR. I love the concept of a baseball World Cup, let's hope it works out

My man big AP himself did an interview saying how pumped he is for the world's. If that reflects other latin guy's sentiments, it could work. I've heard they are playing a lot of it here in Phoenix since it will be in the offseason. If that's true than it would be a fun time.

Only 2 outfielders?

Yeah, the Dominican team will be so good it's unfair.

I predict 5 BBs for the entire team for the entire tournament.

Pujols, Manny, and Ortiz walk a good deal.

What is the format? 5 game series? 7? Pool play?

should be single elimination just to get ti over with. If your a owner wouldn't you bit a bit worried about injuries in a meanongless game.
