They got their third round pick back from Carolina which is kind of a pointless trade to make unless Hall wanted out and they wanted to make him happy

Perhaps but there still seems to be buzz about a Seth Jones trade.

Chicago gets its first win since trading Hall and facilitating Carolina/Colorado trade. 4-1 in Tampa. Teuvo, Donato, Bedard and Slaggert scored, Jones had two assists and was a +3.  It was their first three goal margin of victory since American Thanksgiving. Only their 4th win in 2025.
it was their 37th point in 50 games, which is kind of sort of pulling away from San Jose’s 36 points in 53 games.

They face Hall and Carolina next

Hall wasn't coming back and that 3rd was max value for him.

Yes and they didn’t even get a 3rd for him since they had to eat more money on the other contract to facilitate the trade. My point is bringing back 3rd round picks doesn’t do much of anything for this team. We saw last year how frivolously Davidson treated his plethora of picks with that Islanders trade, practically giving one away to move up a minimal number of slots to take a guy they could have taken later.

There are nhl contract limitations. They already had 2 firsts and 2 seconds this year. They have 3 seconds the following draft and 2 more in 2027. At some point there isn’t going to be room for all these prospects. A third in 2025 is ultimately most likely to get lost in the shuffle.

They may end up moving future picks for an actual impact player one of these years and maybe this extra one gets them closer to the tipping point of realizing the surplus is superfluous.

It wasn’t an awful trade, but it still seems kind of meaningless.

bad goaltending but fun snipe

can't wait until he's scoring 40-50 every year

This is exactly why more and more goalie coaches are saying RVH is overused when the puck isn't in tight to the net.

Believe you said hockey is your life earlier?  If so, I've a question, the Donato goal, do you think the initial shot was a miss by design?  Sometimes it appears to me, like last night, the initial shooter will miss looking to get the goaltender moving and the bounce off the boards.  Trailer shooter, takes the bounce and has an open net.  I know it doesn't always work but, at times, it appears to be a designed play.

I’m pretty sure that was an intentional bank pass. It’s definitely a thing guys do even well below the nhl level

At the NHL level that is absolutely a designed play.

The Stars may have lost Heiskanen for a while. They were one of the teams Jones said he would accept a trade to before he came to the Hawks. Whether their cap situation allows that move is another matter.

Davidson is taking too much criticism over this one. Hall wasn't bringing back an early 3rd by himself. He wasn't bringing back a useful player either. The money for Rantanen is irrelevant since it is coming off the books at the end of the season.

We as fans can talk about what player may or may not be on the board at a given draft slot but the reality is that we aren't on the floor or a part of those conversations. I am of the belief that you can never have too much draft capital. It opens up trade avenues. Options are good.

Davidson isn’t taking any criticism for this. He’s been given a longer leash than any sports executive in Chicago history by people who are all to happy to accept losing now and into the future.

The opinions on the trade haven't been kind.

Davidson is doing fine. Richardson was considered a great hire. It didn't work out. The Hagel trade is still to be determined, although one or both of Moore and Boisvert will have to make a significant impact to offset that one. Other than that, what criticism can you possibly have? Were you happy with the last of the Bowman years and the mess he left?

The athletic is running a series that ranks the prospect pool list for nhl Organeyesationa and the got into the top ten last week. Last year they ranked 7th, since Bedard never appeared on the list as a straight to NHL guy. After adding 3 first rounders last summer they are now 4th.

it is heavily D dependent, with Artyum, Korchinski and Rinzel rating 1, 3 and 4 and Del Mastro sneaking in at 10. Nazar and Boisvert are also in the top 5.

A lot of guys are well respected and expected to contribute at the NHL level but a lot of them are considered middle six role players. It’s nothing surprising but another confirmation that these guys desperately need to find a high end winger from somebody else’s system sooner rather than later. Free agency is the most simple way, but a trade or three is also on the horizon.

What were the top 5 teams? I don't subscribe

Detroit was 5 they haven’t done 3, 2, 1 yet.
this is a summary of Columbus

6. Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets were the most difficult prospect pool to slot this year because Cayden Lindstrom, their top prospect and the No. 4 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, is the most difficult prospect to slot. In theory, Lindstrom replaces the graduated Adam Fantilli and Kent Johnson and the traded David Jiricek and slots right in atop their pool with Denton Mateychuk. But he hasn’t been healthy in over a calendar year now (going back to December 2023) and while he has skated consistently, the back injury he’s rehabbing has kept him out of games in his post-draft season. Still, the Blue Jackets have a good pool, with good players at every position and three legit young goalies who should give them good depth in net

Really weird having a Blackhawks home game in second intermission as midnight approaches on the east coast. Are Blackhawks fans able to watch this game locally on TBT/max?

This feels like one where they are going to give up a few in the third

Donato with a beauty of a redirection tip.

and tnt sports looks like a youth hockey scoreboard operator unable to take the penalty off the board after the PPG. Just lets the time run out on PP while 5 on 5.
