Earth shattering

It’s not earth shattering. But very predictable and very understood. I am sure Counsell wants his guys. Probably won’t matter in the grand scheme of things. But it should not be a surprise Counsell wants to pick his own staff.

Since it looks like Wavin' Willie Harris is staying, I hope he moves off of 3B coaching.  I like aggressiveness...sometimes. Make the defense nake a play.  But too many players have been thrown out on the bases, especially at Home and 3B for my liking.

I can recall like 2 guys getting thrown out at the plate as a result of Harris sends this year. There were way more that were a result of guys going on contact which is more team philosophy than Harris' decision making.

It seems like Napoli, the bullpen coach, and some strength and conditioning dueds are the only ones getting the axe. Maybe Counsell doesn't like sleeve tats.

Maybe Hoyer and Hawkins could be more useful to the team by managing the weight room.  "It's called, INTELLIGENT LIFTING GUYSSS.  MY invention!"  Jed huffily exclaimed, annoyed by all the old-timers who NEVER UNDERSTAND ANYTHING.

Rest of the coaching staff is expected to remain the same. This was a just a move for the sake of making a move. Hoyer is locked in with this mediocre team for another year

You think they replaced their third hitting coach, their 1st base coach, and some unnamed strength and conditioning coaches to win the news cycle?  lol

Yep, kind of pathetic how this team operates

Like bertz do you actually believe that counsell was absolutely pining to get his own first base coach in here lol. That’s bringing in his own coaching staff?

coaches so meaningless that Counsell doesn't actually care about them, but so meaningful that they will strategically announce them(through journalists and not through official comms) to try to get good PR

schrodingers coaches

Like you guys dont think theres any chance some meaningless coaches were let go to show or impact common fan perception that this seasons failure to make the playoffs yet again is unacceptable? No this new 1B coach is the new messiah?

Who are the people that are being placated by these moves?  You think anyone is like "You know the problem with this year's Cubs?  Mike Napoli, obviously."

If they had let go of Tommy Hottovy, maybe you have a point.  But these are very much red shirts that no one cares about.  You had it right last night when you were saying "Who Cares" and for whatever reason have let the impact of this escalate in your head over the past 24 hours.

People see coaches fired and think change is on the way even if Hoyer is running out the same crap team next year. How do I know people are this stupid? 2.9 million fans showed up this year, a little more than last year despite this team being marginally different but a shiny new coach made it seem like things were going to be drastically different.

So if they can fill the ballpark no matter what why make minor moves just for the sake of PR?

No, full stop.  This is a very silly thing to think, and one that is only possible to think if you have been so brain-poisoned by cynicism that you try to fit every bit of news as proof of a hyper-negative caricature you have in your head.

This has to be one of the least consequential discussion we have had in a long time. And that says a lot. It went from “who cares” (where it should have stayed) into some conspiracy by the Cubs to get publicity or to make an excuse for not winning this year. Absolutely ridiculous. Changes are being made because Counsel, as the manager of the Cubs, wants to make some changes. He might be more comfortable working with someone else. Again, kind of a nothing burger. I think what is happening within the organization should have been expected. Hell, Chibear said it during the last week of the season. I, and a few other posters, agreed this would be the first thing they would do. Again NBD..

I'll say if this is the reaction to Jim Adducci getting canned I'm very much looking forward to the first round of waiver wire roulette that occurs before any big signings have gone down.

"The team claimed Colten Brewer because they have no intention of signing Kenley Jansen!"
