  1. Yeah. I'm a kid who doesn't know how baseball works. That's always a cool trope to break out. Nice tactic. As a result I'm chuckling to myself, completely uninterested.
  2. If it's not FA, it's trade. Are you talking Bregman?
  3. My point has been made, not worried about it. So, what, now we don't know what a star is? Maybe we should argue over the definition of, "star" for a few pages instead of seeing the forest for the trees. Nobody's getting worked up.
  4. This just struck me as telling. Nothing wrong with your post, no need for response. Just that we are fans of this major market team with a middling roster. The FO is facing a make or break situation and many of us are hoping that this means they'll make ONE big move rather than continuing to act like the Marlins. I mean, that's just depressing. Dang.
  5. His most recent performance was 2024 where Paredes put up 2 WAR. So, no. The differences between Fangraphs and BaseballRef's predictions are negligible (let's not talk about WRC+ and OPS+ lol) so when you see someone intentionally cherry picking between the two like some in the thread, warning bells do start ringing. To say nothing about the obvious line between predictions and results Either way, he's around 3. ish. Which is fine. The problem with Paredes was never WAR. Or any stat, really. It's just that the team needs a star and 3B is one of the few positions where it makes sense to upgrade. That's it. We can sit around and justify everyone's job on the roster using whatever versions of WAR and feel great about it. Then they go out and win 81 games while management blames late slumps and injury. 🙄
  6. I'm viewing Paredes as a 2.5 WAR guy because that's what he's been outside of 2023 (more AB's, essentially). To me, that makes more sense than going with the anomaly, especially when he failed to back it up in 2024. (went right back to 2.5). It's all offense, Paredes is essentially 0.0 dWAR. Hey, maybe he's a 3. That's pretty good. I also want Soto. But falling back to the, "really good set of position players" doesn't quite track since that's essentially what they did the last two seasons. Upgrading someone like Morel shouldn't be the standard of excellence around here 🙂
  7. I've watched you type this several times. Completely untrue. Nobody has personal feelings about any of these guys. Because nobody knows these guys personally. It's obviously all about the performance.
  8. Then I suppose it's a good thing that posting on a nearly dead baseball forum is a WHOLLY UNSERIOUS ENDEAVOR. 😉
  9. Acquiring Paredes was an admission that it was a position of extreme need and wanted to make it seem like they were actually trying to add talent. But it also meant that they are still trying to fool everybody into thinking another cheap, mediocre journeyman is a potential superstar. Having Isaac Paredes around as filler isn't the worst thing in the world, unless they use him as an excuse to continue ignoring the obvious offensive need. .240 with 20 Hr's is probably fine if you like 80 wins. The batting eye makes him attractive as a bench/platoon type. I thought he was a better player in the minors (less HR, better hitting) I can't see Paredes netting anything worthwhile in trade.
  10. Bellinger did, "fine" sure, but he was supposed to be the biggest star. Which is the real problem.
  11. Lol my first thought too. Some girl from ATL misses that hot guy that used to be around.
  12. Doesn't pass the sniff test, Swanson is untradeable. I don't see anything on MLB traderumors. Did you just make this up?
  13. Willson Contreras. Lol. You serious, Clarks?
  14. Jed, is that you?
  15. Well, you seem very convinced by yourself. Congrats and good luck.
  16. Busch was a high school shortstop and played there growing up. Of course, positions are somewhat determined by roster makeup as 1B/LF were available in NC. But he also bounced around and played plenty of 2B and 3B. Busch was drafted as a 2B and has played there his entire pro career. He is certainly more comfortable at 2B (and probably 3b). Busch started playing 1B again just this year with the Cubs because they needed a 1B. Before that... 2B - 242 pro games 3B - 74 1B - 22 LF - 16 When Busch first got called up last season he replaced Muncy at 3B, not 2B.
  17. Busch has been a 2B his whole life and would likely be fine there but that would mean Hoerner is traded which is raising my blood pressure just thinking about it.
  18. To me, Nico is the leadoff man this team has needed for 30 years. At least until Armstrong showed up. And you know he can play any position on the field. Busch is ok but I wouldn't block (or not trade for) anyone because of him. In reality,, though, that's why he's here (cheap, controlled=untouchable). I've begrudgingly made peace with it. Happ, Suzuki, Belli. 1 or 2 of the 3 can go and it's fine. If they aren't desperately trying to move Happ, there should be an investigation.
  19. The HOF isn't sacred, it's just a place for baseball fans to go and have fun remembering the past. Don't take it too seriously.
  20. Coming in a little hot, eh? 1. That's not how I got that take. It's just normal common sense, really. 2. Yeah, Counsell wants his own coaches. I don't know that anybody would ever argue against that. 3. None of this is a big deal.
  21. Flaherty would've been a good target last season. Now that he's basically re-established his value, you'll have to pay him. Which is something that seems to be out of the question for this FO.
  22. Fair enough, I see where you're coming from and generally agree. At the risk of being overly argumentative, I'll say that there are differences and our current talent pickers are surely tipping the scales on the safe side. Anyway, I agree with your main point that coaching can make a pretty big difference. Some of these guys act like everything is always on autopilot which couldn't be further from the truth. There is danger in leaning too far into this truth, however, and that is part of the problem we're facing. H/H wants us to believe that we can fill the roster with middling talent and coach them into superstars. This is not only false, but an intentional lie.
