It is wild having both fun hitting AND fun pitching at Iowa.  Seeing a Shaw homer and scrolling down to see Birdsell doing something more impressive is extremely fun.

Birdsell is probably done:

6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K with 14 swinging strikes on 87 pitches..

Consistently sat 95-96 with the fastball.

Will Sanders: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Was humming along but couldn’t get out of the 5th after two doubles and a walk with 2 outs.

Birdsell really looking like a top prospect. If he finishes the season like he’s pitched recently, I’d have him as a top 10 guy.

It’s a little crazy, but if finishes strong, I’d like to see him get a couple starts in Chicago. It’s not gonna happen. I’m sure the Cubs don’t want to roster him yet and his inning total is getting up there. I think he was around 110 innings last year and he just went over that today. So, yeah, he won't be pitching in Chicago at the end of September. It just would be awesome if he did.

Another guy I'd like to see get called up in September. I miss the days of the unlimited 40-man September call ups.

We're now at 125 plate appearances for Johnny Long at Tenn and he's still rocking a .480 OBP.  

The power's not looking especially impressive, so you do kind of wonder if he ends up kind of Alfonso Rivas-y.  I think I might be more interested in defensive scouting reports this winter than offensive ones, because it's a lot easier to get on board if 1B isn't the only place he can reasonably play.

Cam Smith is now OPSing .967 and his strikeout rate is down to 25.6% (it was at 63.6% after his first three games).

Reminds me of Jason Bere.  Build is similar and he had a little bit of a weird arm action.

Cam Smith up to a 174 wRC+, I know we're very close to the end of the year, but i wonder if he gets a small taste of A+ with an outside shot to start 2025 in AA.
