Ty Southisene is a 2024 SS/RHP/2B with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from Henderson, NV who attends Basic. Smaller and slender build with room to get stronger. 6.45 runner in the sixty, very quick twitch athlete in all regards, speed plays up due to his energy. Very light on his feet defensively in the middle of the infield, has bounce, athleticism and balance, quick release on his throws with plenty of carry, plays defense with confidence. Right handed hitter, has a busy start to his swing, quick and whippy barrel with bat speed and advanced barrel to ball skills, consistent hard contact to all fields, not much present lift to his swing but doesn't need to with his barrel skills. Very advanced player who plays with energy. Good student, verbal commitment to Tennessee. Named to the Perfect Game All-American Classic Team.

"It’s nothing new for the Tennessee commit, but Southisene was the catalyst for the Reds all week long. Exceptional plate coverage and pitch recognition paired with a lightning-quick bat allows Southisene the ability to do damage against a plethora of pitches. Stood out among his peers being one of the few players on the week who was able to barrel up 95-plus velocity as well as tying the event-high with six hits. Undersized in a “traditional” sense, Southisene plays much bigger than his 5-foot-9, 165-pound stature, with tremendous bounce and twitch throughout. Effortless mover in the middle infield with butter-smooth hands and an explosive first-step that plays way up on both sides of the ball. Southisene has above-average tools throughout the profile with a high-octane motor, and now put together outstanding performances on the biggest stages of the summer. In a time where stocks can fluctuate greatly, Southisene continues to trend up."

It's pick 120, the best all-time pick at that spot was Mickey Morandini

I said it jokingly, I actually kind of like the pick.

I was thinking of him more as a hobbit with a penchant for ancillary involvement in the adventures of others.

Nah, that's Cobb Hightower.  He comes from the family that lives at the tallest point of the Shire.

I've come on a full 180 on Southestine. When you read the BA stuff and the MLB.com thing I was...luke-warmish on Southestine, but the more I see from him the more it sounds like he's a fun little pick (pun intended. Got 'em!). There's an interesting profile there. Sounds like he needs a swing cleanup a bit, add some lift? But as a 4th round pick there's MLB starting upside. Maybe find 12 home runs in that bat.

So depending on the article he's between 5-7 to 5-9 and 160 to 190lbs.

It's amazing to me how we as a society can create all of these AI things but until a human being gets to the MLB we have no idea how tall or how much they weigh with any sort of accuracy.

I hadn't decided whether Fenwick Trimble was a helpful or meddlesome hobbit.

I think Cobb Hightower would be helpful, and Fenwick Trimble would have been assisting Lobelia Sackville-Baggins to walk off with the cutlery.

Cobb Hightower sounds like a Star Wars name to me.

I feel like they just picked Ryan Theriot

He's a 5'9" shortstop who is committed to Tennessee and was drafted on day 2. I feel like they just picked Mookie Betts.

Please will that into existence. Thanks.

The Cubs did something similar last year when they zigged while everyone zagged. Last year it was "draft college arms when no one else was (I.E. Wiggins, Sanders) and this year it feels they're doing that with prep bats the last two picks.

Sounds like a money-saver pick.

He's a JR though, so it's not like the usual college SR where you can just say here's 10k, sign the contract.

Not sure how much they can save with him since he's a college junior

I'd imagine a decent amount still. Not a great college track record outside of defense. I don't think he's your "full-slot" save or anything insane, but this is also probably a "Listen. you're not a hot draft prospect type, so we'll offer you 6th/7th round slot and take you in the 5th" type stuff, too. So I'd guess it's not a major money saver, but that he's under slot.

Yeah, he's not a full-slot save. But he's also probably not going to get full 5th round slot, either.

Not that the rankings are the end all be all, but as of now. The Dodgers are the only team with only 1 guy drafted in the top 100, the Cubs are tied with numerous others for 2nd fewest with 2.
