Usually gonna sit on the shelf for a bit with that. I wouldn't be surprised if he's shut down til after the ASB.

Maybe. But I think it is way too soon to take that determination. Just look at Taillon as an example. His back was bad in spring training and he missed several weeks. Put him back over a month. But then he tweaked it again during the season and he missed one start. We have no idea the severity of Horton’s back problems. But I am sure the Cubs are being extremely cautious. So, sure, might be until after ASB. But could be 10 days too. No reason to speculate yet.
Honestly if it does that him back 6 weeks, that means fewer innings this year. Which could be a good thing if/when they do bring him up late in the season.

The lat is the arm/shoulder moreso than being isolated like lower back or a hamstring strain, and the recovery plan for an established player like Taillon is very different from how the Cubs treat pitching prospects.  In particular those with past arm issues like Horton.

I think you missed the update

Sorry, didn’t see this thread earlier and was updating yesterdays minor league thread.

So far, the diagnosis is only “soreness” but this is the timeline for lat strains (as TT said, the Cubs will treat Horton a lot more carefully and bring him along slower than they would an established big leaguer). I just hope is we see him in box scores again this season.

Hope it remains "soreness" over everything. Figure as much as the Cubs will be very cautious on his return, they were probably equally as cautious last night so a slight twinge or small sore spot would probably result in a pull regardless.

👍 yes, I did miss the update. It does appear he will be out a bit. But, if he does come back after ASB, as I said, that might not be terrible.

Not the worst outcome. Probably a really light strain all things considered; figure the Cubs are going to be extra cautious here right now, so what may have been a 2 week sit and rest+rehab is doubled with a slower ramp. Probably see him just after the TDL back on a mound. Maybe a September cup of tea in the BP is on the table still.
