No one should ever throw anything in the zone to Happ until he proves he can lay off

Reached down and launched that slider. Nicely done, Ian.

I’ll save us all some time. “Wilson Contreras got his hand fractured because some idiot at the Cardinals told him to move forward into the path of the hitters swing and it was simple unavoidable that he’d get hit in the hand.”
Simple, ESPN!

xBA on batted balls by the Cubs in the 8th:

.470 - warning track flyout

.550 - single

.650 - single

.390 - diving catch flyout

.370 - groundout

maybe the positive we can take from this is the bats are showing a little life.

More late inning big hitting from this lineup. Maybe they can do this in the first 7 innings of a ball game one day.

Busch has a hard enough time hitting high fastballs, now he’s gotta worry about getting rung up on pitches 3 inches above the zone

I don’t get this. Down 1 and you pinch hit for Wisdom with Busch knowing Gomes is on deck?  Why??

fake edit: and then he PH madrigal with 2 outs. Make this make sense. I know Wisdom isn’t great against righties but that still makes no sense
