It would make sense if they wanna go with the lefty/righty DH option of Wisdom and Mervis

If they were going to do a DH platoon, I would prefer Cooper/Mervis.  Cooper hits LHP eons better than Wisdom.  He crushes it like nobody on this team.

Yeah I can’t see Wisdom, Cooper and Mervis up at the same time, unless Jed has lost his mind and thinks Wisdom is a passable OF and sending Canario down

Reports on twitter are that Garrett Cooper has just left Wrigley. Whether or not that's an IL or a DFA, your guess is as good as mine.

EDIT: Confirmed. DFA'd.

Somebody needs to go on the IL though, or Wesneski can't be called up.

Why is that? Hasn’t he been down long enough?

I'm curious how the rule is written. Do we need two IL stints to bring back two players within that 10 day window? Or does a single IL stint make both eligible if it's within the same transaction?

Edit: The Rule

"Upon being optioned to the Minor Leagues, a position player must remain there for a minimum of 10 days before he is eligible to be recalled to the Major League roster. For pitchers and two-way players, the minimum is 15 days. If a player is serving as the 27th man for a doubleheader or replacing a player who has been placed on the injured list, there is no minimum number of days for which the optioned player must remain in the Minors."

So it looks like it has to be an actual 1-1 replacement. Also, the 10 day window I referred to was just position players. It's 15 for pitchers and two way players.

But since Little was the 27th man in the doubleheader, it doesn't apply to him.

Has to be in the MiLB for 15 days after his demotion unless an injury occurs.

Well the people complaining about Cooper get what they want.  I didn't really think he was much of an issue.  His swing was a little slow but he came up with some big hits.  That said, Mervis makes him a bit unnecessary and even if I thought he was doing ok, that doesnt mean I thought he was a must have on the roster.

Ok, so if Little is coming too does that mean 2 injuries? Or did little coming up as the 27th man not count as an actual call up?

Kind of how I feel. Once Wisdom came back Cooper didn’t make sense. I thought he was ok, but I am fine with them trying Mervis again. Just hope he gets semi regular AB as a DH when a righty pitches.

You can call up anyone for the 27th man regardless of how long they've been down.

The 27th man doesn't count for that purpose. However, I wonder if optioning him on the 17th is relevant. We're still within the 15 days from that one.

assume it would mean two injuries. Little was sent down on April 17th. Based on my understanding of the rules, he should need 15 days in the MiLB since that day to be recalled unless the DH 27th-man thing resets that, but I doubt that.

Both.  Being the 27th man should not count, but Little was previously only sent down on the 17th so he's still within that window that would require an injury now.

I know that. But when they send him back do they have to wait 15 days for him to come back up? Does him coming up as player 27 count as being called up?

NM, answered while I was asking the question. Thanks

I'm a bit surprised at the Cooper DFA. He seemed like a good compliment to Busch. But this could also mean the Cubs feel a little better about Busch against LHP than originally thought, too.

Cooper leaving Wrigley after being cut. I think he'll catch on somewhere

Dang, I wish we had Coop last year instead of the awful Mancini/Hosmer dynamic duo.

That works for me. They might also feel better about Morel at 3rd so they want a left handed bat for DH against right handed pitching. Tauchman is in the line up so now Mervis can DH.

What if they move someone to the 60 like they do sometimes
