I think it's picked up traction because there are too many people that are wishcasting this into their favorite team's best player playing again

There is some of that, and I don't put a lot of stock in the random Twitter post, but this does smell like a case of a DA over-reaching for a serious felony charge that isn't supported by the facts.  Obviously we don't all know those facts yet, but based on the reactions of others who are closer to the case than we are, I am fairly confident that the felony charge isn't going to stick.  Whether that might actually lead to Shannon playing again this season, I have no idea.

All the Buie, tough Northwestern defense talk notwithstanding, I didn't think the Wildcats had much of a chance tonight.  Illini just too big, too long and talented for Northwestern hopefully, they can hang in there against Purdue on Friday.

This Illinois team is really good.  They won't stick as a Top 10 team without Shannon, but they have a lot of weapons and appear to be built for March moreso than the previous years.  I don't expect them to win at Purdue, but it will be interesting to see if they can carry this momentum forward.

I'm skeptical they can continue to shoot this well, Shannon playing or not.  If they do, it's going to be a deep run in the tournament either way.

Other potential positives are all TJs social media is reactivated, and the NIL store is selling his gear again.

EDIT: And the gear is gone from the store again. Must have been inadvertent.

Illinois gave Purdue all they could handle but came up 5 points short. Still, it's a really good showing against the #1 team in the nation on their court.

I hate B1G officiating so much. It certainly didn’t cost Illinois the game but it costs the conference in the tournament every year because they let these guys murder each other in conference play and then it’s a completely different game in the postseason. This game was a good example of how physical it gets.

Surprising that Illinois was able to get Edey into foul trouble. Not an easy task, and I'll have to look at the game closer to see if there was something specific they were able to do to force him into bad situations.

While it's concerning to see only 10 points from Edey, I think I'm happier to see TKR fill up the stat sheet instead. He, Gillis, and Jones were great tonight.

Purdue destroyed Illinois on the boards. That to me was the major difference in this game.

Illinois was playing tentative and scared the first 25 minutes. They were just bad. Terrible shot selection, not going to the rim, and generally just bad decision making. I think most of those guys not having seen Edey before had a lot to do with it. Rogers absolutely can’t be on the floor when Edey is because it allows him to just sit in the lane and guard the rim. It took Underwood way too long to figure that out and get another shooter on the floor to make him guard someone. Purdue’s supporting cast played exceptionally well.

TKR played with a level of energy I don't think I've seen from him before. He came out of the gates aggressively, which was great to see.

Illini hung in there, seemed a little shell shocked at the start, came back out scoring Purdue by 10 in the second half.  Sure would have liked to see what how the game would have turned out with TSJ in the lineup.  Think he would have been able to exploit Edey' slowness by driving to the hoop before Edey could get back.  Nevertheless, Purdue is very good, should win the Big Ten and do well in the tournament.

Speaking of Edey I read he still has eligibility remaining?  He's too slow and unskilled for the NBA, might as well run it back.

Defensive rebounding is what killed the Illini yesterday. Brad said in the postgame that they figured Edey on Rodgers would be a thing, but it's a hard thing to practice because they just don't have someone that big, so they didn't practice it enough to deal with it better.

Otherwise, they neutralized Loyer, Braden Smith was managed pretty well, Edey was managed as well as could be, they just weren't up for anything else, and just could not stop Purdue from getting second chances, particularly early on. Sure, Purdue shot lights out in the first half, but it came back to normal by the end, it was just too big of a deficit to recover from.

Kauffman-Renn was the game-changer. Hitting 6/7 FTs, 23 points, 3 Offensive rebounds. Hard to overcome a role player playing that well when you also don't shut down the guys who normally carry the load

Been following this guy for the last couple of weeks. He does really good technical breakdowns on Big Ten basketball. Here, he shows some of the adjustments Illinois did to get back in the game against Edey and Purdue.

Yeah, even from Underwood in the post-game, he said they were expecting Rodgers would struggle if/when guarded by Edey, and it was a hard thing to practice (because they don't have a 7-4 300 lb guy around to provide context). Eventually they found a lineup that worked (5 shooters with Hawkins-Guerrier-Domask-Harmon-Goode), but the lack of defensive rebounding just put them in too big a hole.

I'm no lawyer, but this looks like complete BS.  No video, no witnesses, no physical evidence.  Shannon was identified after the fact through web searches.  How could this possibly be enough to charge someone with any crime, let alone felony rape?

Sounds pretty disgusting to me and I hope he never plays for the Illini again. Frankly, after reading that I'm disgusted by the people on this board coming to his defense.

Oh, so he is guilty then?

Yes, the actions described in the affidavit are disgusting, but there are so many potential holes in what was shared there.  With no apparent witnesses or evidence whatsoever, I don't see how this case possibly holds up.

I don't know whether Shannon did it or not, but I do know there better be more evidence than this if they really intend to take this to trial.

I’m not saying he didn’t do it, but that’s pretty thin evidence to think you can get a conviction from.

I'll leave the conviction or not to the lawyers or courts, but she gets more of a benefit of the doubt than he does. He likely did it, and expect more from the teams I cheer for than the court of law. You can support him and still not let him play anymore this year.

So did Nebraska pants Purdue last night just because they shot 60% from 3 or was it something else?  I didn't see the game but that was the box score item that really jumped out at me.

It was because they shot 60% from 3.
