I have seen comments a few times regarding Nico Hoerner and his up side being basically an average major league hitter. And if you look at his numbers he does grade out right around 100.(average). But my question is does SB ever get put in the equation when determine offensive value. I mean often after he gets a single he ends up stealing second base. He get credit for one total base but that single ends up the same as someone doubling. I realize with guys on base this is different. I am just curious if there is any place that is accounted for when determine a guys offensive value. A stolen base is offensive value.
I absolutely believe Nico is a star player at 100/105 offensive value when you factor in base stealing, running the bases and then, of course, his defense.

looks like they are lining up Stroman to start Game 1 of the WC series if they make it (and if Steele has to pitch on Sunday thus missing the WC round)

Hopefully Steele won’t need to be used. Then they can go Steele then Stroman.

I think Nico is under appreciated when people talk about the Cubs.  He's the epitome of consistency offensively and defensively he's near the top of the game.  As you pointed out, he's an excellent base stealer and a smart baserunner.  Unfortunately, modern stat-driven baseball loves players who hit 25+ HR, 160 Ks, .210 BA, and can't play defense at any position over guys like Hoerner.

No, baserunning isn't counted in OPS+ or wRC+ (the most common '100 = average' metrics you'll see quoted.  Fangraphs' 'Off' counting value does include baserunning, and Hoerner is 62nd of 135 qualified hitters.

The Happ hitting 3rd conversation is mostly over but I still don’t like it when he’s hitting 3rd against lefties. He’s still terrible hitting righty.

not sure how the Rockies bullpen is set up in terms of handedness though, Blach is a 5 inning guy so maybe the matchups later in the game make him hitting 3rd better

“Blach doesn’t strike out anyone”

*Proceeds to strike out the next 3 hitters*

He threw 3 straight balls to Bellinger for the strikeout, which is fun.

Did Candelario have a setback?

I thought he was to return this weekend,  today would of been a good day to get his bat back in the lineup against the lefty

I don't know that he was really expected back right away. When he first went on the IL I recall it being questioned if he'd be back at all in the regular season.

Marlins about to go 5-1 vs the Braves and the Marlins in back to back weekends. Frustrating.

I told people in August after the deadline that the Marlins were the team I was most worried about. They have a solid team with their deadline moves

If the cubs go 4-3 counting today and the Marlins beat them out, they deserve it. They handled Atlanta and the Brewers and hung in there. I know they end with the Mets and Pirates, but both are in the road. And both teams are decent at home. Cubs just need to take care of what they can.
