the cubs should buy, but they aren't really comparable situations. the angels are desperate to win this year because they're trying to keep the best player of all time.

That and their farm, even pre trade, was absolutely terrible. If Ohtani leaves they were looking at several years of rebuild whether they traded him or not.

I just can't bring myself to get worked up over a guy in complex ball as being a particularly audacious piece to give up in trade, it is so so far from realization of whatever potential you see.  Last August everyone gnashed their teeth after Cam Collier slipped in the draft and made the ACL look like batting practice for a couple weeks at age 17, and now he's got an 87 wRC+ in full season ball.  Maybe this guy is the next Tatis!  More likely he's Reggie Preciado.

Texas Rangers prospects Brock Porter (#4 on their top 10 per MLB.com) and Sebastian Walcott (#6) (#s 59 and 98 in the top 100, so a similar package to Ben Brown/Kevin Alcantara) both pulled from their games, per Greg Zumach (@NamedAfterMaddux) on Twitter.... could be a big-ish deal coming
