I'm hoping for Oliver Moore. He certainly fits the high-speed, high-compete profile the team is trying to establish.

Added Moore. Great pick

Love the descriptions I’ve read. He was mocked here and higher. It was bound to happen with all the Olivers I’ve seen in school in these days but is this the first one drafted by a Chicago team.?

So they didn’t trade up from 19 but nobody really expected them to. Now the question is do they use all their second round picks to move back into the first again? Or do they use all of them and just load up on secondary guys? The world needs ditch diggers.

My guess is they start to load up on a few RHD guys, bigger forwards, and yet more speed.

I was really hoping the Rangers would take 35 + one of the other picks so that the Hawks could take Perreault, but nobody is trading picks tonight.

How many years do incoming freshman that get drafted tend to stay in college?  1-2 years max?

depends on the guy. The higher end guys typically only stay one year, but injuries or guys that are on a longer development path can stay longer.

Top half of first, maybe one. Back half, one or two. I would assume two for Moore, especially with the need/desire to spread out contracts for this new generation of young guys. Bedard will need a new big contract in 2026, and so will other guys.

Reichel was the 17th pick, stayed in Germany for a year then signed a year later. But he spent nearly all that next season in minor, and most of the following in minor before establishing himself in the nhl, sort of.

most top college guys just sign with nhl when ready to play nhl, not minors.

Anecdotal, but the first round college guy that the Jackets drafted two years ago (Kent Johnson) started the season in college, then debuted with Columbus after the college season ended

5th overall pick. The guy taken before him, Luke Hughes, played two college seasons before turning pro this spring. The Devils were stacked with young talent, so situations aren’t the same. But it’s more reason to think Oliver will not be in Chicago before 2025.

Right. A guy like Fantilli may go straight to the pros, or may go to college for one or two years. There's no great way to predict these things. Plenty of other first rounders this year (mid round) are clearly not ready for the NHL and will have several years of development first. Bedard is the only clear straight-to-pros guy we know about

Fantilli already played a year of college. He probably isnt going back.
