Brisby has a great article about the pitch clock and listening to the “radio” broadcast. It made me think about how much more i enjoyed games listening to them rather than watching them. Of course there must be good broadcasters like Pat Hughes.

How will Pat get his forty dozen ad reads in with fewer time between pitches?

That’s all they’ll time for.

"That pitch clock violation was brought to you by Rolex. Rolex - Live for greatness."

Timing is as fortunate as could be but still have to imagine this keeps him out the first few weeks of April

That is a tough injury to overcome depending on where the strain is, just getting out of bed or putting on shoes can aggravate it, let alone doing baseball stuff.

Yeah, it seems highly unlikely that he would be ready for Opening Day. Not a great start when this is one of the guys we were counting on to have a breakout season in order to have a reasonable chance at competing.

The messaging on the Seiya stuff is a little all over the place. A couple things that were said that make me think he'll be back by opening day and this is largely a big to-do because they're being mindful of how bad he wanted to play in the WBC, and there's a few things that were somewhat ominous make me think the over/under on him getting back is May 1st.

Let's assume Seiya has to miss opening day and Davis has a really big spring. Do you give him the primary RF job until Suzuki gets back?

He's got nearly 250 PAs at AAA, plus this will be his second spring training largely in big league camp, plus his alt-site time in 2020, plus a smidge of AFL time. He's got a decent amount of experience against MLB-adjacent pitching, even if much of it came last year while he was physically impaired by the back issue.

I wouldn't. He missed way too much time last year and we have other guys who can fill in for a short stretch. I would rather Davis get some more time at AAA and hope that he forces the issue later in the season.

FWIW, Ross termed it as "minor" when he spoke today.

That just means our medical staff hasn’t done anything yet. Once they get involved it will be moderate to severe in no time!

Hoping he's back by the All Star break.

Stroman is mixing up his pace today. Seems super intentional. Getting set and coming home right away on one pitch, doing the same but holding for a full five seconds before starting his motion on the next. I love that. The clock makes the hitter more aware of your pace, and more sensitive to it if you change that up on him. Use what’s there for you, keep the opponent on the defensive.

Jedd does not make it sound like Seiya will be back anytime soon. I'd guess we are probably looking at late April early May.

that's freaking depressing. I imagine he will start out a bit slower too with no spring training....possibility this throws off his season at least a little.

i think he mentioned at some point (he might've tweeted it between anti-Semitic takes or telling anyone who is mildly critical that they don't matter and he is better than them because they aren't MLBers and he is) that he was specifically working on that this spring.

Man, I am so out of the loop I didn't even hear about this. Bet the Ricketts actually gave him a bonus under the table.

There’s definitely a healthy way to approach broad media narratives with skepticism. There’s definitely also a pathological way to do so. Stro seems to run toward the latter lately, which sucks. Complicated dude.
