Very weird to me that Eflin got three years and Gibson got one. If I was ranking FA pitchers ordinally they'd only be a few spots apart

One being 28 and the other 35 is a big reason. Eflin's excellent turn as a reliever probably means a team like the Rays(who signed him) believe in their ability to minimize his shortcomings relative to a guy like Gibson too, who is more of an end of the rotation innings eater.

Gives the more obvious contenders a more obvious trade target than Varsho, better and more established hitter too…I’m rooting for the Phillies (Mick Abel+):

I suggested going after Reynolds the other day. He would cost less in prospects than Varsho and is controllable until 2026. He could certainly help the team until some of the OF prospects are ready.

And the Pirates release a statement pretty much saying no dice

nuh uh

According to MLB Trade Values, Varsho is 74.5 and Reynolds is 59.9 which is at least one very good prospect (Alzolay, Hernandez, etc.) difference.

I mean he's really good, but why? William Contreras is on the verge of being a top tier catcher.

Yeah it's weird, like he's an upgrade for sure but you'd think you could upgrade more easily elsewhere. And the Braves also have very little in the farm, so is Contreras going back the other way? That could make sense, until you remember Shea Langeliers?

Weird fit all around if it happens.

Nevermind then!

If he accepts, I'd just lean into the name and only sign 6'4 + players moving forward.

In MLB the Show17 it seemed like every computer-generated catcher was 6"4

A little more AAV than he was expected to get but only two years. Definitely need Jed to pull down a shortstop now

are the mets expected to sign nimmo? even if the cubs get a shortstop, they need lefties pretty badly

I think Nimmo's market hasn't had a ton of chatter, at least that I've seen. As a QO guy with a price tag of 20M+ I'd written him off, but after the last 24 hours I'm not so sure. If they'd potentially sign Bogaerts and Swanson would they sign one of them and Nimmo? Not sure but doesn't seem impossible. And I do like Nimmo as a target.

Heaney to the Rangers on a 2/25 deal that could be as much as 2/37.

I would be having a meltdown about this if we weren't getting so many indications that the purse strings are much looser than we thought.

Depending on what ends up actually happening I still might.
