i'll take the wins but it's gross that we're helping the brewers into the playoffs

Think of it this way: we're just helping them get a lower draft pick.

The Phillies do want to make the playoffs right? As much as I'm laughing at this, I'm also just like stunned that the phillies are completely flatlining in a critical series.

Coming into today, the Cubs were 10-25 against the NL West, and 59-61 against everyone else.

You could also look at it as 20-10 against the NL East (possibly soon to be 21-10) and 49-76 against everyone else

ATL 3-3

MIA 4-2

NYM 4-3

PHI 5-0

WAS 4-2

Yeah It's especially galling with the pitching matchups. Like if you're the Phillies you can't get swept in a series where Wheeler and Nola both go. You just can't.

If they find next year's Robertson and Givens to go along with Hughes and maybe Wick/Heuer/3rd FA/Estrada, having Thompson, Alzolay, and possibly Wesneski mowing down the middle innings could get very fun.

I know a segment of the fan base hates Ross, but I absolutely love that he uses these long relievers in leverage spots. I'm generally reticent to shift guys like Thompson who I believe have it in them to start into long relief because I'm used to that being garbage leverage, but if this truly keeps up it makes the value tradeoff between starting and relieving much smaller.

Cubs finish 17-4 against the NL East since the All Star break.

And if you break that down that's 9-0 against the Philles and Mets vs 8-4 against the scrubs (Nats and Marlins). Again, blah blah blah draft position but I'm having fun with this.

There were definitely points in this year that I thought it was much more likely we lost 100+ games then win 70+ games. 3-3 against the Reds allows us to avoid 90 losses.

2-4or better to improve on last year's record.

There were some seasons where I admittedly rooted for the tank because the team needed high draft picks, because I wanted the manager and/or front office gone, and/or because I wanted the team to have a strong reason to gut the roster in the offseason.

That's not the case this season. The farm is in good shape with a lot of promising guys moving up the ranks. Ross has grown on me and the front office looks like it can identify and develop talent effectively. I like the stable of young pitching that's coming together. There's room for improvement, but the team ending the season this way gives me plenty of reason for optimism for 2023.
