This is one of the worst lineups I've ever seen

You apparently missed much of the 2012 and 2013 Cubs.

I would put a lineup with McKinstry, Hermosillo and Bote up against any of those teams

What do you do with Sampson? It sucks to have him holding a 40 man spot in the offseason, but how can they let him go at this point?

They can't.

Yeah he's not a guy you cut at this point. While his ERA is certainly flukey low, he's now at 124 innings of pitching with adequate peripherals going back to the start of last year.

With minor league options like he has there's a little bit of value there. The Cubs are thankfully in a place where they can and should lean on the youths instead of holding onto Sampson, but not every team is. The Rangers seem like a great fit, Dbacks too maybe. Teams that need like 3-4 SPs this winter, Sampson could be the 3rd or the 4th.

So the question is, is Sampson really a thing?

Watching tonight, no way. I'm not sure what the peripherals will say, but that was an ugly 1 ER performance. He was in some sort of trouble almost every inning and the defense bailed him out at least 3 times with either catches of a rocket or turning a really tough DP. As was said above, he's nice to have around as insurance since he has options but if he's anything more than injury replacement insurance or middle relief next year, that team isn't sniffing the postseason.

2012

Vs

2022

Rizzo's probably the best piece in either of those lineups, with Happ probably 2nd. But then I would take (what we thought they were or might be in 2012) Castro, Castillo and maybe even DeJesus and Valbuena before another 2022 Cub. Shoot, even LaHair had played at an All-Star level in the first half, and the 2nd best hitter in the Cubs lineup yesterday (Bote? Higgins? McKinstry?) hasn't even come close to that. And Darwin Barney was at least very good defensively (or at least had that reputation... going back that far it's hard to remember his actual defensive performance.

lol - there's way too many posts doing a lineup comparison between teams when the 2022 lineup looks pathetic because Contreras, Suzuki, Hoerner, Madrigal, Wisdom, Reyes and even Ortega are all missing. That's at least 2/3rds of what would be the lineup. Yeah, it's going to look bad.
