Of course the Hawks tie it with 2 mins left and are going to get at least a point.

hawks will officially not have the best odds at bedard

Edit I'm an idiot, I forgot the Jackets still have a game left

What a joke of a franchise they have become

The Bears are the only team that knows how to tank right. The Bulls went through a complete tear down rebuild and picked 7th 3 years in a row. The Cubs traded all their players away but built 71-75 win teams.

Hawks lose in OT anyways.  Need a win from the Ducks tonight and a Jackets point tomorrow.

Well at least they only got a point.  Still an outside shot at worst record if Anaheim gets 2 points tonight and Columbus gets 1 tomorrow

I think its a very fair article about finding the balance between appreciating his contributions on the ice and letting his silence in the Kyle Beach matter tarnish his legacy to some degree.  His comments about it really really disappointed me and I can't help but think about them every time I think about Toews.

Re: toews, it's really hard for me to let go of what happened and while he wasn't directly a part of it, I absolutely believe he's lying when he says he didn't know about the harassment that came after. And his reaction when the news broke was absolute trash.  I really want every single piece that was in any way connected to that era to go away.

Re: draft position, this is a really good draft to be locked into top-4.  From what I understand reading reports of people who are better scouts than me, there is one McDavid-level talent in this draft and three more that would have a case to be top overall picks in other years, sort of eichel-level.  Obviously fourth means you might have to stomach the Russian situation but that's probably worth it over settling for the next tier down.

Unfortunately unless Columbus gets a point tonight, the Hawks will have a 30% chance of picking outside the top 4.

The NHL needs to change the draft odds, its ridiculous how slanted they are for the team that finishes with the least points.

Anaheim:   25.5% of Top 1, 44.3% chance at top 2, 100% chance at top 3

Columbus (with 0 points today): 13.5% chance of Top 1, 27.9% of top 2, 59.9% chance of top 3

Chicago: 11.5% of Top 1, 23.0% chance of top 2, 30.4% chance of top 3

That meaningless point last night cost us a 30% chance of picking in the top 3

god, the last 2 games could be so unbelievably costly. it could literally be the difference between me following the team or not for the foreseeable future

Even though I'm a Ducks and Blackhawks fan, I hope bedard goes to some random team near the back of the top 10. Gimme them tank-happy tears

Ottawa or Vancouver

According to Tankathon, Ottawa doesn't even have a shot at 1 overall and I really have no desire for the next teams on that list to get Bedard (Vancouver, St Louis, Detroit, Washington, Philadelphia).

Every sport should go with the Gold Plan that awards points for each win post-elimination from the playoffs.  Or a true random lottery of the teams who finish outside the playoffs.

They won’t do the random lottery because they still remember the Magic getting the number 1 pick in back to back years despite going 41-41 the second season and drafting Shaq and Penny

They'll never do it, but I want some league to try the "team that just misses the playoffs gets the #1 pick" model just to see if it works

Yeah, and they see that as a failure of the system, and yet it created some dang fun teams. There's just got to be a way to do it that doesn't incentivize putting a bad product on the field/court/ice

I think the NBA made a big step by flattening the odds for the worst teams.  Yes there are still teams that tank seasons and there are one-off situations like the Mavs for 1 game but there wasn't this big race to the bottom over the last month of the season with fans being angry when their favorite team wins a game.  The 5 worst teams are separated in odds by 3.5% so no one is fretting when your team wins one.

In the NHL, the difference between the worst team and the 2nd worst team is a full 12%, while in the NBA, 12% separates the worst team from the 11th worst team.

Just do away with drafts.

Soccer up all our sports and have relegation and youth training academys.

But we don't even soccer up our soccer.

Though MLS is starting to get big enough where it could be split into MLS tier 1 and MLS tier 2 with promotion/relegation between the tiers. It would be a good testing ground for the system on US soil, but also potentially torpedo MLS interest in half the country.
