Can someone explain the excitement over Flores? I don't know much about him (don't watch a ton of Fins football) but I see a coach who didn't do all that well in 3 seasons. Those 0-7, 1-7 starts concern me, for sure.

The primary reason he's gotten hype as a coach is because he put up two winning seasons with horrific rosters.

Am I the only one who still thinks of the "I'll eat my laptop" line about the 2005 Bears when they see Charles Robinson's name pop up somewhere?

There are also some red flags that maybe Flores wants to be the Belichick at his next org. That's a step further than how he is viewed as a coach. And even on the coach side, there's appeal, but there's some still outstanding Q's.

It makes sense if he didn't have much control in MIA that he would want that now, and of course he wants a great QB, everyone does, but he's going to have to develop one, and he came from the other side of the ball in NE.

I don't know. I don't want to pre-judge him but after starting 1-7 in his 3rd year, AGAIN after doing the same in his first year? I don't think it's all that shocking for a team to move on from that. Keeping in mind, that 1-7 start featured losses to JAX and ATL in back-to-back weeks.

Also I didnt see this posted, but this may be the reason the Bears would be accelerating the process as the Giants are also high on Flores

this scares me. was it Watson who wanted to hitch his ride to Flores or was it mutual? I dont want another HC who wants nothing to to with our young, in-house QB

I mentioned that a couple of pages ago. I don't think George wants any part of that PR hit, though it still concerns that me he wasn't 100% effusive on his commitment to fields in his press conference. I probably shouldn't think too much of it though...

I don't know, you know how much George values coaches that can keep the team together after long losing streaks

Yeah, it seems pretty clear the Dolphins are trying to nuke his rep because of the reaction to their firing him. But some of this bad stuff the past ~week is pretty compelling and scary, so I'm definitely nervous if we go with him

Giangreco has fallen fast, somehow lesser than Kaplan now.

EDIT: Personally, I like those odds, except for Harbaugh, who is someone I don't think moves the Bears in a positive direction.

Grain of salt warning

Interesting nugget from a “source” claiming that some of the people they’ve brought in haven’t been overly high on Fields.

Would be so Bears to draft what turns out to be the franchise QB they’ve been waiting for only to trade him before he becomes that guy. I’m not saying that’s going to happen though.

I mean if we're being as honest as possible and putting homerism aside no one should be overly excited about Fields right? Neither should they about Lawrence. From the tape out there, there's questions and you're not in the building to really know any circumstance.

That said it would take a pretty crazy set of circumstances where both of those guys aren't getting the next two years to develop.

I guess you could call him a sunk cost but you spent several picks to draft him and he’s on a dirt cheap rookie contract. He has the intangibles and showed enough flashes to keep developing him (aka he wasn’t Haskins out there). It would be monumentally stupid to trade him IMO unless you can acquire someone with his ceiling who isn’t battling 2 dozen sexual assault allegations.

Yea agreed he isn't getting traded I just think we shouldn't freak out about reports that candidates dont love him as much as us. Probably a bigger sell for a GM who knows they have time rather than a HC who might be pressured to win and isn't sure exactly what they have.

Yeah, I'm not worried about trading Fields at all. There were numerous reports about people in the building feeling he was special and had that "it" factor. I think that's why there was indecision that was reported with retaining Pace.

There's just no way the organization is going to let prospective GMs get rid of a high-character special talent like Fields. Anyone who doesn't love him should not be considered. Not for not loving him, but because their qualifications should be seriously questioned considering the guys they interviewed are from organizations that have Baker Mayfield, traded a 1st for Carson Wentz, kept running Big Ben's corpse out there, and have Taysom Hill as QB1 (among other questionable things) at QB.

I am being as honest as possible saying I’m overly excited about Fields as I was before the draft and after the Bears traded up for him.
