RIP. Kind of crazy he lived just long enough to see the documentary air.

As a coach, that Raiders team with he and Snake Stabler and Fred Biletnikoff got me into football nearly as much as Payton.

RIP to a legend. People disparaged his announcing near the end of his career but I always enjoyed him.

Weird that his biggest legacy will be tied to a series of video games he did very little to contribute to (other than his name, which was a huge help in early years I'm sure)

Yep. Raiders were my #2 team growing up. Though it was more after his time there, in the early-to-mid 80s, I loved the players that carried over from his era (Lester Hayes, Cliff Branch, Mike Haynes). He still had a huge stamp on that franchise.

What if he hated the documentary so much that he died

The two tweets mentioned in the article are the worst non-Covid hot takes I’ve read this year.

The empty wheel lady's responses were even worse than the original tweet. People asked basic questions for her to defend and it was basically, "you just proved my point!". She totally had no actual point. When someone said Madden was pretty forward thinking about player safety her retort was he did that because he knew he had profited off the violence.

The Fox documentary pointed out that Madden insisted on playing 11 on 11 in the first Madden. The video game makers didn’t want 5 lineman, but Madden insisted.

I was a huge Raider fan from those days. They are probably still my favorite NFL team but not like I loved them in those days. I remember how upset I was when Madden quit coaching.
