That legit makes me horsefeathering angry and depressed.

It’s the most prominent thing on the Memphis skyline, that and the river bridge. An absolute embarrassment, except it’s godawful Memphis so it’s somehow perfect.

Maybe because I'm not in the area anymore. Maybe because I have no emotional connection to Soldier Field and have no memories of going there (been to 1 game, don't really remember anything about it. Might have actually been preseason). But I really don't care about where the Bears play.

I would still prefer them to play in Chicago if all things are equal but my ultimate preference is a state of the art retractable (or just enclosed) stadium with a capacity that reflects the size of Chicago (aka not the smallest capacity in the NFL like Soldier Field is) and can host the types of events that go to other cities like the Big Ten Championship game, not to mention Final Four and an occasional Super Bowl. And if that can only be done in Arlington Heights, lets do it.

Watch the McCaskey's blow it and do an open-air stadium because they believe in the meatball concept of Bear Weather.

Are there still dipshits who believe in horsefeathering Bear Weather?

How? Why?

Maybe not as a competitive advantage (though I'm sure there are idiots who believe in that), but I've seen more than a few people saying that Bears football needs to be played outdoors and not some sissy climate controlled dome

Do they also believe the messed up field is "Bear Turf" or some horsefeathers that will magically cushion the ankles of Bears players but tear up everyone else?

I'm not saying playing indoors is "sissy" or anything ignorant like that. I just like seeing football played in the snow at times. I've been to games in the snow and it's an experience. I admit I'd be disappointed if the Bears played home games inside.

But it just makes the team worse and shoots up the odds someone gets hurt. Making everyone play blindfolded would definitely be fun to watch, but come on....

I've been to Bears games in the snow too and it was miserable. But that may be because the Patriots won the game 36-7

I don't care about Bear weather, but I have come around lately to the idea that the games should be played on real grass.

So screw the retractable roof and go with AZ/LV movable field where they roll in Bears grass 8 times a year and have field turf or whatever for other events.

New conspiracy theory, the timing of this announcement was designed to be after a disastrous loss when most Bears fans have completely given up on the team and stopped caring. There's no backlash to moving out to a generic suburban town if nobody wants to watch them anyway.

Yeah, I don't care about any of that stuff. It doesn't benefit me in anyway.

I have a preference that sports teams should play in dense urban areas, but football might be the exception with their short schedule. Even in cases where it doesn't impact me directly I do just think it's better.

I think the Super Bowls and Final Fours are overrated. But it amazes me that San Antonio built the Alomodome for ~$300M in today's dollars, never attracted the NFL team they were after and have hosted just about as many Final Fours as anywhere else (though no SB) . And now new stadiums will cost $2B to hopefully get a couple of those SBs and Final Fours. I'd love to see some financial argument that someone could spend < $1B and get a multi-purpose convention center that gets year round business, but can scale stadium seating for mega sporting events. Maybe it's not a feasible one though, but football stadiums are just very nuts now.

Soldier Field is in an urban area but it’s kind of awkward, being located away from public transportation and not having much in the way of Chicago culture around it. Unless you are looking for that coveted Football / T-Rex combo experience.

That said, I have so many fond memories of Soldier Field, going back to the 1970’s and watching games in the bitter cold with my Dad. I’d be fairly devastated if they left, even though it might make sense depending on what this new project would look like.

Coming back to the idea of staying in Chicago, anyone have any idea why the US Steel Southworks site was never offered up as a solution? 400+ acres. On the lake. Nearby 90. On LSD. Close to a CTA stop. And a area that actually could benefit from development. 2021 aside, even when they were trying to figure things out in 2000s why wasn't that a proposed solution?
