More info from Block Club (Subscription Needed and Highly Recommended):

Bears leaders and architects with the firm Hart Howerton offered no new stadium renderings Thursday, instead describing their general vision for the property, which they said could include two- to eight-story townhomes, “parking fields” adjacent to the stadium, a sports book, a “Bears fit” workout facility, public parks, ponds for canoeing and kayaking, restaurants, a hotel and a modernized Metra station.

A traffic planner also said that the team is looking to change exits and entrances for Northwest Highway, as well as Route 53, which run north and west of the property.

[. . .]

In response to questions from concerned Arlington Heights residents, McCaskey and Phillips said the team would privately fund the stadium, but they would seek public funding for the infrastructure improvements — to sewers and roads, among other things — necessary for the project. They vowed that infrastructure improvements would not lead to direct property tax increases in the suburban town.

this is exactly what i would anticipate happening. a development that big would require infrastructure updates, and typically they are paid by the entity proposing the development. But in this case, where the landmark tenant is as large as an NFL franchise, federal, state and city will likely foot the bill somehow. But at least those improvements will benefit more then just the Bears, hopefully

Fwiw, I didn't have to subscribe, so there's probably a free article limit for anyone hesitant to click though.

Interesting. It's the website that was created in the fallout of Joe Ricketts burning DNAinfo to the ground, so I'm happy to promote them whenever possible.

I think they took the paywall off at the start of Covid and apparently never reimplemented it. But yeah, love Block Club. You can also support them by buying this magnificent tshirt like I did: https://blockclubchi.weebly.com/store/p27/chicagostyleispartycutshortsleeve.html

Recent NFL stadium renderings for the Titans and Bills:

Titan's exterior looks unique and the Bills stadium isn't domed but the interiors are starting to look very similar in design to SoFi and Allegiant. I am interested to see if the Bears follow that trend and if it will still feel fresh when its built.

Posted
Titans interior is only gonna hold 60,000 apparently. Current capacity is 67,000+. Do they struggle to fill it? Seems like Nashville has grown like crazy and could support a big crowd.

Maybe it's a growing city but how many are actually Titan fans?

Sure but I would have thought that if they were going to invest in a new domed stadium they'd want one that can host a Super Bowl. Seems to be a motivation for many of the new stadiums. That said many of these stadiums have smaller capacities but room to expand for an event like that. Allegiant Stadium is like that too I think.

Also I think its hilarious that Buffalo is not going to bother with a dome because there's no [expletive] way Buffalo is hosting a Super Bowl

Apparently the NFL told them they'd get a SB despite the size, according to lots of people on Twitter. But I'm sure just the one.

Like realistically the NFL would prefer to host it in like 5 or 6 southern cities on a rotation and occassionally throw a bone to a northern city that gets a new stadium.

A lot of Titans fans come here from all over the state. People eat, sleep, and horsefeathers football here in TN.

Yes, without a doubt.

I edited my last post and added this, but I'll put it here instead:

I guess I only react with the "Nashville is growing doesn't mean Titans fan base is" because Nashville is obviously known for so much more in terms of the music and entertainment scene alone. I could see a lot of out-of-townees moving there solely for that, and that wouldn't mean city growth = stadium seating growth. But your point about other Tennesseans (that word looks almost Greek with all the a's and e's) traveling to Nashville may counter that idea. Any idea why they undersized it this time then?

Isn’t the trend with new stadiums in all sports that the capacity is trending lower and the focus is more on premium seating/every seat having better site lines vs building 80,000- 100,000 capacity type massive stadiums where 10-20% of the seats are complete horsefeathers?

Eyeballs at home are all that matters in the end.

Yea there is definitely some trend that way. Vegas went with 65,000.

But yea the basic idea is that those extra seats are the most expensive to build and generate the least revenue. Still, even with that slight downward trend, didn't expect a team to go all the way down to 60k

I wonder if there is some site constraint, ie to make the stadium bigger seat wise would mean more land acquisition, etc

Its the current parking lot of the stadium apparently. So I'd think similar site conditions, but maybe for modern amenities the space constraint is that much different too.

I think cost was the main reason they didn't go bigger. It's a fairly taxpayer friendly deal that was agreed upon.
