You’re calculating win percentage in reverse. Baltimore should be ahead of Texas. KC ahead of Washington and Colorado, and the Cubs ahead of Detroit.

I accidentally sorted the standings by games back, not win %, and ESPN breaks ties with losses, not %. I have fixed it.

As bad as the Cubs have been lately, they have barely moved in the standings. There are a LOT of really bad teams.

They also started off pretty far back. In the last 10 games, they’ve picked up 6 games on Det and 5 on Col (passing both in the standings), 5 on Min and 3 each on KC and Mia. The only team they haven’t gained ground on is Washington since both are 1-9 in the last 10.

 

They’re 3 games behind Mia for 5th right now. Only July 31 they were 6 back. 5th worst record is well within reach now.

They have a good shot to get to 5th, they have a lot of head to head matchups. If they can manage to get swept in those series, that would really help the cause.

Cubs "gain" 2.5 games on the D-Backs, but have not yet jumped anyone. Losing 9 straight doesn't get you very far with all these terrible teams

It still seems like 5 is a best case scenario, with somewhere in the 6-8 range being the most likely outcome. I just can't see catching any of the bottom 4 at this point.

Baltimore moves into first place on the back of a 17 game losing streak (now THAT's tanking!!) Cubs jump up to #6, with Washington hot (cold) on their heels

There's a clear split between the top 4 teams and the rest of the pack. Washington's tank game is strong, climbing all the way up to 5th place, while the Cubs' 7-3 mark over their last 10 has plummeted them back to 9th.

I haven’t been paying attention very much, but it really amazes me that there are any teams worse than this Cubs team.
