And the reason why anyone knows any of the details is because of...

You're right... it is an awesomely juicy gossip story. That's why the divorce updates keep coming. I know David Ross is divorced. But I had to look it up; it was just last year. If it was reported in the media, it probably garnered a couple paragraphs, tops. It's not a reach at all to think Ben's divorce proceedings are "click bait" given some of the information that's come out already.

Because it's a ridiculous story, and ridiculous celebrity gossip has been a thing forever.

"Clickbait" would be, "You'll Never Believe the Insane Details of David Ross' Divorce!!!!" and then the actual blog or article or whatever pulls a bait and switch and it's just about the boring David Ross divorce we never really heard about because it was so boring and involved David Ross, who is history's most boring monster.

My horsefeathering apologies for my horsefeathering incorrect use of the horsefeathering term" click bait"

Julianna has a healthy Instagram following so that’s part of it

Some of what I do involves promoting Christian concerts. I’ve asked some of those people about it as a Cubs fan and they know nothing of her. She is non-existent in those circles. She is only Instagram famous.

I have no idea if it applies to her, but these days "Instagram famous" can legit mean someone is absurdly (terrifyingly?) famous within that medium with insane numbers.

See also: YouTube/Twitch/Twitter/etc. famous. Someday someone much smarter than me will come up with some kind of insightful breakdown of how much fame has mutated so quickly into a very different thing thanks to social media. Like, someone can have tens of millions of followers or hundreds of millions of views, and yet seemingly most people on the street will have no clue who they are.

Another sign of how increasingly siloed we are. Even huge users of those platforms haven't heard of some of the biggest platform celebs. They follow who they follow, and that's it.

Right? The whole "content" thing cracks me up. It's like THIS close to just saying, "I dunno; here's some more horsefeathers for you to consume."

Well, if you look at my original post... I never used the term "click bait." That was all you. I just said "More clicks, baby!" And I still believe that to be true. More people will follow this divorce not so much for who is involved (although in another post I admitted that plays a part of it), but for the details that have already come out.

I'd be willing to bet Ben and Julianna were considered "boring" before all this came out. That David Ross is "history's most boring monster" has nothing to do with it (although I could argue more people know him than they know Ben. Ben wasn't on DWTS or dry-humped a corpse on SNL). Lots of couples divorce amicably. Maybe Ross' was; maybe it wasn't. That nothing was ever really written about it leads me to believe it's the latter. I could be wrong. But it's all in the details. And more media will follow this divorce because of the deets. My whole point.

OK? It's the same thing; I wasn't putting that out there like "clickbait" is some kinda gotcha or insult; I just think it's a largely meaningless criticism since, of course, literally every media outlet is trying to get people to read/watch/listen to/etc. their content.

Right, we agree; this is a story simply because it's about famous people AND the details are so horsefeathering weird/pathetic. IMO, there's no "maybe" about Ross; if there was weird horsefeathers behind his divorce, we definitely would have heard about it, too.

Of course sites want you to click on their content. answersafrica.com, most certainly does.

https://answersafrica.com/the-untold-truth-of-ben-zobrist-and-julianna-zobrist-marriage-and-divorce.html

Their website is dedicated to being the "knowledge base for Africa, news and entertainment website with Africans in mind. It is a place for individuals and explorers who have an interest in Africa.

https://answersafrica.com/about

This site popped up on the second page of a Google search using the terms "Zobrist divorce".

Perhaps I'm being naive, but is there a connection I'm missing between this divorce and Africa? Or will websites stretch the normal boundaries of their content because of the juicy details?

The point I'm trying to make... and I thought I made this clear in my previous post (perhaps not) is that more media will be running this story than normal because of the details of the divorce.

you may be onto something here. the more i think about it, im seeing more and more media companies write about interesting stories than boring ones

Missed the point entirely, but ok.

“If it bleeds (or involves a pastor banging a fourth rate country singer/wife of a second rate baseball player) it leads!”

This, folks, is the correct answer.
