It took a week's worth of practices, but there are finally whispers everywhere you look about Fields being more than the Bears even hoped for. The Riddick quote. The report from fans attending camp. The people who say they have contacts in Halas Hall. There's just something different about Fields and everybody seems to know it but nobody is saying it too loudly because they're afraid of getting ahead of themselves.

Hook it directly to my veins. I'm all in. Not nervous at all.

I've never seen a great QB on the Bears and I've been burned so many times that I should be very wary because the QB position can be unpredictable at times. But I feel so unbelievably confident that he's going to be great. He just seems to have all the tools and the intangibles.

Sounds like Wims is having a bad day. Fields threw a pick intended for Wims which reporters are saying was a miscommunication between Fields and Wims (could have been Fields fault too of course). Then Fields threw a perfect dime for Wims in the end zone and he dropped it a la the playoff game last year.

Oh Nagy... re: Fields needing to check down more

“Sometimes it might be 3rd-and-14 and you’re thinking, ‘Man, I got to throw that ball to that dagger route across the middle and get 15, 16, 17 yards,’ when there’s lots of clips of doing that and the ball getting Plinko’d up in the air and intercepted instead of a checkdown to the tight end or halfback who catches it at 7 yards, makes one guy miss or runs somebody over and gets the first (down),” Nagy said.

He's not completely wrong or anything, I just worry about Nagy having an overly conservative offense that doesn't let Fields be Fields

Not to mention that we've had a QB for the last 4 seasons who constantly checked down to dump a 2 yard pass to the flat on 3rd and 14

I have no real ability to tell the difference between breathless hype for a legit superstar QB prospect and the million other prospects we've been through.

Really? I remember hype being a lot more tepid for Mitch as most thought there was going to be a learning curve. People were quick to point out when he did well but it wasn’t the kind of horsefeathers I’m reading about Fields.

Though I did go to the Reddit page for all 5 first round QB teams the other day and they all seem to think their QB is going to be competing with Brady for GOAT by the end of their careers. Except the Jets that is

Trubisky was a little mixed on draft day, but there were tons of great reports coming out of camp. I remember when Cade McNown was NFL ready and basically the next Brett Favre.

yes, I do. And I remember when Kevin Orie was going to be rookie of the year.

But I also remember when we sent Kerry Wood down in 1998 after ST and someone said "if they have five better starters than him, they're winning it all."

After the Tampa game in 2018 where Trubisky had 6 TDs in the first half everyone thought Pace was a genius but it pretty much went kaput after that.

Oh yes... Kevin Orie, Gary Scott brings back childhood memories. Finally someone to replace the black hole at 3B that existed since Santo left.

McNown was a training camp holdout who sat behind Shane Mathews and was purposely eased into nfl games one series at a time.

Did we? I feel like most still recognized that TB was a trash pass D that year. Like it was promising because shredding trash Ds is what good QBs do, but it was still obvious Mitch played way down to good competition too.

I thought that game showed his promise, but he we expected more games with 3-4 TD's then we got from him after it.

This and they were opposite styles of QBs.

Grossman was the one who got Brett Favre comparisons when he came into the league.

Injuries completely stunted his progress. I don’t know if he ever would have been a great or even good QB, but he played only 8 games in his first three seasons in Chicago. Was the starter on a Super Bowl team his fourth year, when he started all 16 games. Then only played 12 games in his last two years in Chicago.

Not all of those missed games were due to injuries. Dick Jauron inexplicably refused to play him for most the season his rookie year. And then some of the missed time in 07 and 08 could have been benchings. I don’t remember.

McNown/Favre comparisons were about the idea that he would be able to scramble and improvise to make plays.
