Since this has always ultimately been about money and viewership, I doubt they leave OSU out. Clemson v Bama/OSU v Notre Dame is gonna be your semis.

That scenario involves Clemson beating ND(and Bama beating Florida), and it would break out as ND vs Bama/Clemson v OSU

So what's the plan if/when one of the final four teams breaks out in COVID come playoff time?

Not that it can't happen, but students are now off campus most places and they certainly will be the 2 weeks leading up to the playoff. That should hopefully keep things quiet. Speaking just for ND, they've said the team is not leaving campus the rest of the year.

Very unsurprisingly, the B1G has reportedly voted to rescind the 6-game requirement to play in the title game, clinching the East for Ohio State.

Its in the B1G interest to have OSU in the playoffs. Truth is if the situation was reversed I think they would have put Indiana in the Championship game also. I think the real crime is a 5-0 Indiana probably wouldnt be in the top four currently, even if they beat OSU

Disagree on that. They've had no problem putting undefeated no prestige teams in playoff/championship positions before. Kansas, Missouri, South Florida, BC off the top of my head.

Now whether Indiana would survive Florida beating Bama and Clemson beating Notre Dame I'm not so sure.

saw someone (just a random guy I follow) on twitter speculate that the Big Ten will cancel all games next week that aren't the title game. Honestly, it seems like the best course of action. The crappy teams (Illinois, Nebraska, Rutgers, etc.) don't need another game. The mid-tier teams are who they are and will play the same bowl games regardless. IU has covid issues and should be locked into a good bowl regardless. It's just about getting another data point for OSU.

I don’t understand what the point of that would be

Not forcing Northwestern to play yet another game (4? 5?) against a team coming off of a Covid bye week?

Illinois isn’t coming off a bye.

Mustache Man with something completely different. A self imposed bowl ban for THIS season. That’s rich.

I don’t think this is a new gimmick. Auburn basketball just did it like 2 weeks ago

It’s about to get really, really bad at LSU. Some crazy rumors out there. Don’t be surprised if Orgeron is fired with cause.

It would mean that Northwestern wouldn’t have to face OSU coming off of a bye after Northwestern played the week before.

Northwestern’s opponents:

Maryland - season opener

Iowa - no bye

Nebraska - coming off bye

Purdue - coming off bye

Wisconsin - coming off bye

Michigan State - coming off bye

Illinois - no bye; Northwestern coming off bye

Ohio State - coming off bye

It’s more about being fair to Ohio St: if they somehow pull off the win, it will come with an asterisk due to all of the extra prep time. Everyone will see the win as tainted and they shouldn’t have to carry that burden.

BC has announced it's opting out of playing in a bowl game. Wondered if we'd see some teams do that. (Not counting LSU's hilarious self-imposed bowl ban.)
