My Machado hatred is well documented but imo that is a very ordinary play once he makes the (admittedly unconventional) decision to try to track that ball.

I’m kinda in favor of banning shifts to the degree of you need two infielders on either side of 2B. You can still shift them between 3B-2B and 2B-1B accordingly and even go short RF if you want with a 2B for a slow RHB or something and you can move the OF’ers around still but the 3-4 guys on one side of 2B including a RF, short RF’er and then a guy in the regular 2B spot I want to see go.
