So I've been doing the "Cubs Game Thread" the past couple of seasons, and I've noticed I seem to often start a thread after a loss.

Brewers go for two in a row with this guy starting:

Or was it this guy:

Cubs, meanwhile, will counter with this guy on the mound:

I always seem to get a little anxiety when I start a game thread.

For one, I don't want to be the reason the Cubs lose.

And I feel like the thread start needs to be cutting edge, trendy or entertaining. How many of those little hearts can I get people to check?

"YAY ME!!!! Somebody likes my thread start!!"

The reality is, me starting a game thread has no bearing on the outcome of the games. And I really shouldn't give a rat's a$$ about you guys. I don't even know any of you save your dumb board monikers.

Win you dumb basterds! Or not.

You're on deck.

I assume the plan is Rea for 3-4, Sadler for 2, and then go from there? I hope the offense shows up because the Brewers basically emptied the tank on their pen last night.

They really need to get Underwood’s spot figured out. I realize it’s pedantic to be commenting about the last spot of an extended bullpen on a team with the best record in baseball, but if they can only use him in blowout losses it’s time to move on. They already have a spot for Kimbrel to work through things. With today effectively being a bullpen day and 5 games in 3 days coming up they need to roll the dice on a different arm at South Bend.

I'm guessing he's here for the next five days in case the team needs bulk innings, and barring an impressive outing or two gets let go for Quintana next Friday.

So....uhhhh....does Colin Rea sit 93-94 as a starter now? Or is he treating this this just a "relief" appearance and he's gonna come out after 2?

90-93 in the second, which is more in line with where he should be as a starter. Was probably just amped for his first MLB start in a few years.

Cubs Twitter:

(Win 9 of 10 games): Cubs are back we are awesome!

(lose a game): heh, guess we had to lose sometime but boy do we need a RH bat

(Tied in the 4th inning of the next game): holy horsefeathers this team is falling apart and are foolishly not finishing off the Brewers when we had the chance

Also I realize old school NSBB did this.

I also realize that I sometimes did this lol

Bad 0-2 pitch for a double and Willy didn’t block a fastball in the dirt which leads to the IF playing in and a grounder gets through that might have been an inning ending DP.
